What's with all the recent speed monitoring strips?

I know Vienna is forever anal about speeding in their farts-smell-like-roses town, but what's with all the speed monitoring strips (double rubber lines)? Is something about to go down? Or is this just their quarterly "we're bored, let's try something new" garbage?

those are for speed and not traffic volume monitoring? lines look to be too close together to effectively calculate the speed of a vehicle.

Yes, positive. Volume monitoring is always only one line. They only have to be far apart enough that any tire would not hit both at the same time. They may also collect for volume too, but two parallels are always speed. Now sometimes you might see where there are two but one extends to the other lane, that's also just volume and they simply subtract the count from the shorter line to obtain the correct count for the longer one.

i thought those double deals were for that, but wasnt 100% sure. i had my doubts on the accuracy of some air operated rubber hoses draped across the road.

i had noticed an increase in the amount of vienna's finest running radar on beulah that month or two. the usual spots in the parking lot of glyndon park and a little further up on the right, around the curve. then i noticed they got really crafty and had poncharelli strategically placed right at the line to FFX county, on john marshall, never seen them there before.

I did. Hence them all being taken up. Still...just wanted to know why they were there to begin with. Ripping them up apparently instead made them resort to the ever-so-threatening, "Your Speed Is..." radar sign. LOL

That's actually a really good idea. I don't want them collecting data of where people speed, because that would mean more police patrolling around the area. Just have to find a good time at night when less people are out ;)

I assumed it was to see if speed bumps need to be put in. Regardless I go over them at 3mph just to screw with their data.
