If they were really serious about cracking down on illegal immigrants, the best approach would be to mandate serious amounts of jail time for those caught driving without licenses and/or without insurance. The two largest groups of people who commit these offenses are those people who are here illegally and those people who had their driving privileges stripped for committing some other serious offenses.

That's a start but denying them employment would be a lot more effective
along with deporting any illegals who find themselves in the court system.

States cannot deport, and their ability to limit employment options is limited. Certainly state and local governments like other employers should not be employing anyone who wasn't legally qualified to work in the U.S., but we don't need new laws for that.
