No left turn sign at Stratford Ave. screwing things up.

Anybody know whose bright idea it was to not allow left turns from southbound 123 onto Stratford Ave on weekdays from 7 AM to 7 PM? That alone screwed up things enough for people going south on 123 before the bridge-replacement project. But, since the project started, because of construction, they ALSO don't allow left turns from southbound 123 now on Kenmore Ave or Whitehead St (which serves as a northbound detour). This has REALLY screwed things up for some people, because now, one cannot legally turn left at all southbound on 123 until you get to the stoplight on Main St, near the courthouse. It makes it very difficult to get from southbound 123 to University Drive (say, if you are going to the library or to the Safeway shopping center). Some people cheat and turn left off of 123 through the big parking-garage to cut across to University Dr. but that technically is illegal.

It would be a LOT nicer,in my opinion, if the City of Fairfax (or VDOT) just removed the no-left-turn sign at Stratford at least temporarily, until the bridge-project is finished next year and things get back to normal.

Statford Avenue is a residential street - not a commuter route - and it should not be made into one even temporarily - most commuters don't respect the speed limits on Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax City already - there is no reason to believe that they would be any more respectful on a residential street. If you want to get to University Drive (the Library, etc.), you can get there from Fairfax Boulevard at the Sunoco Station.

I have to strongly disagree, Whether Stratford is primarily a commuter or residential street is not an issue. BOTH commuters and residents pay taxes to support our local highway and road systems...and have a right to use them. One group (residents) can't just sit back and (selfishly) proclaim "Its OUR street", and not allow others through. That is just absolute nonsense.

I lived on Stratford, in the big white house at the bottom of the street, from 2008-2013. We had more than a handful of cars come flying through our front yard because they were using the street as a 'cut through' during rush hour and they were speeding down our hill like a bat out of hell and lost control before the turn. I pushed SO hard for speed bumps or stop signs. OF course, city officials who live in that neighborhood, who shall remain nameless, who are some of the WORST lead footed speed demons in the City, tossed those ideas out right away. Anyway, no, Stratford is not a commuter street. It is a residential street and commuters make it a safety hazard EVERY single day. I HATED it.
