This girl and I decided to get a bit crazy because they just knocked down the buildings we use to chill at (R.I.P. MVC); so we went over to the church next to Filmdex. Once there we decided to drop by the Filmdex building, but no one was there. After we watched traffic go by we decided to jump the fence and investigate a little bit. Not much to see except wasted film and photo paper thrown about; there was also wasted developing equipment inside the old (motel) building. The on thing that caught my eye was a new orange fork lift (Toyota) just chilling inside the garage of the old (motel) building. After seeing all this we were confused and a bit sketched out; so we decided to leave and come back another day. There are no “No Trespassing” signs or anything so I would like to think everything we did was legit.

They are trying to sell some of the fixtures that apparantly were in the building. They have a vending/soda machine in the moving truck out front. After calling the number listed, I was told that they wanted $300 for the machine. However the glass is broken out of the front of it and it's rather sticky where you get the sodas out from. Must have either had alot of sodas spilled, or Ron Jeremy came by to shoot a movie, one of the two.

I drive Lee Highway past Filmdex on a regular basis. There are cars behind the fence but nobody ever comes or goes during daylight. The gate is always closed. No security guard shack there. Suburbia is encroaching on what used to be the boondocks. The theory is that, with Vulcan quarry nearby, there are bunkers dug deep underground, and the old motel is for show. There is a flurry of activity at Mount Weather ascribed to social security haha, and also the bunker facility @933rollingholly drive. DHS=KGB

This is the above-ground portion of the facilities where CIA psychologists experimented with "novel" interrogation techniques in the early 1970s. One unfortunate subject who escaped was eventually captured after a period of hiding out in not that far away. They might not have caught him, but for several episodes of psychotic break, where he bizarrely dressed up in a bunny costume and threatened people...

Went there today, just loads of exposed old film rotting away in trailers. Looked like a lot of junk in motel rooms and film spicing equipment in garage/shop behind main house. There was a table outside that looked like it could have been used for developing film, also a couple of what looked like film developing chemical bottles and maybe a light of some sort. Couldn't get into main house and there are shutters in most of the windows. From what I could see there was more junk/boxes on some tables, etc. The whole place is really decaying and in bad shape. I can't imagine anyone did anything there anytime recently.

...oh, and I almost forgot: a fork lift in the back garage that looked like it was in really GOOD shape. There also some sort of motorized cart or something in one of the trailers to the west end and some commercial/industrial laundry basket looking things laying about with the name of some '????? METALS' company printed on the side and im one of the windows (bathroom window...?) where the 'motel rooms' are were stacks of empty, boxed cigar tubes (like a hundred or more)...?
The 'key' if any, to the riddle lays inside of the house, I bet.

I worked on phone lines in the main building in 2008. Remember (or heard of )years ago ,as recently as the early 70's...If you bought something on credit you would stand on a line about six feet away and they would take your picture with this grey colored camera about 2 feet high ? No longer used in the U.S. but the guy there said they ship them to third world countries that still do use them. He had a bunch of those cameras there.

I went in a couple years ago... strange place. They keep a tv running in the main building, as well as a television running inside the motel, and a radio running in one of the room. I guess it's to scare people away but it just made it more fun. I can't remember too well.. but we definitely did find tons of tapes on shelves. Even took some. You can just walk through the place, mostly.

It will be a sad day when the Filmdex complex ceases to exist - I've been around 20+ years and always wondered what the heck it's still there for; seen and heard many different things. A continuing source of bemusement that'll disappear into history when it's replaced with a church or something (*).

(*) I believe that area is a "no residential" one so only light industry or a church can be put there, essentially.

I've lived less than a mile from Filmdex for 25 years, so I was as curious like everybody else here. Once I saw the brick wall with the FILMDEX logo come down, I felt like calling the old phone number and seeing who I could get in contact with to get some info about what used to go on there, and why you never saw customers frequenting the business. If they develop film, were they a commercial enterprise for the public? Or just contractors for other businesses? Well, when I called, a giant blue dick squeezed out of the receiver and slapped me in the face. I think some leftover trickle got in my mouth. Do not fuck with these people... I'm serious.

She kept asking if I was interested in buying the place. I kept saying no, then said there was speculations about the place. She paused for awhile and said it was owned by an individual. I was so weirded out that I had to say thanks and hang up. It was the chantilly filmdex

I have been inside the compound many times. Let me first express my concerns to any would-be adventurers out there: Filmdex is not a simple operation and you will require supplies (food, water, and gobstoppers), competant and seasoned adventurers who got your back, and the courage to face darkness, darkness within filmdex as well as within your own soul. My expedition force has acquired a many of phat loot including but not limited to: 20 year old whisky, a painting of a large scale navel engagment, Filmdex merchandise, a truck full of novels entitled "Clickster Clackster," and harddrives which our fine researchers are examining, research that may lead to the origins of filmdex and for that matter, the origins of the Illuminati. As fellow explorer Dongs has pointed out there is even ancient archaeological discoverers within the labyrinth waiting to see the light of day once more. I will not go into detail but we have reason to believe that the Arch of the Covenant is hidden within the depths of Filmdex. I believe that exploration of the compound not only sheds light on the mysteries of Filmdex, but also on the mystery off our true purpose on Earth.

I know these post are old but that place is really creepy. I went online and tried to do some research on that place. I found some info. Checked Fairfax Government to see tax assessment it's not listed. "TG" posted above "The current legal owner is "Ida L Slattery" who purchased the property in 1978 for $250,000. It's still listed as a commercial property. There is no record of who she bought it from." I don't know where he/she found that information. I think of myself as a decent google searcher and there was no info. You can see for yourself, click the property link below and search for yourself. The address to the property is 15900. The property is worth $312K. Owned by the Slattery Family.

Joseph E Slattery - Male 87
Jean Eileen Slattery - Female 50's
Ida Livia Slattery - Female 83
So i'm guessing Parents and daughter.

There is another Slattery that doesn't show up with the others
Bob Slattery - Male http://www.manta.com/g/mmcglpm/bob-slattery

The third thing I found was the building's Size in Square Footage which is 12,748 SF. Fourth is the APN/Parcel ID #064-1-01-00-0006 and Census Tract #4910001009 which normally would help to find out more about the property, they're useless. You try to google multiple terms with and without the numbers it loops you back into one of the websites I've listed below.

Other people related to the Slattery Family:
Catherine L Slattery
Debra L Slattery
Ginger Christine Slattery

Joseph and Ida bought property @403 Harbour Pt. Apt. #201 Virginia Beach VA on 03/03/1987 for $142,450 and sold it on 12/30/1999 for $137,000
Found info above on http://www.city-data.com/virginia-beach/H/Harbour-Pt-3.html

I found a lot of questionable information that I won't post but that's about it. Anyone has any more info on the company post it up.

Funny I used to work there myself a long time ago. It was a great summer job for me and I had a wonderful time there. I have to say that it did have its creepy parts simply because they modified that old motel to house there busine ss. I remember as a young boy always wondering what they did in that place. They ran that place with well they were probably wise not to sink a bunch of money into a new facility. It was always cool when they blasted at the rock pit cause it really made the ground shake over there. I could go on about bees and snakes as well as poison ivy. I would trade my job in corp. America to go back there anyday.

We found hundreds of checks on the ground and decided to blockade one of the doors just to fuck with anyone coming to check it out. LOL. I nabbed an old picture of a woman who worked there i guess. Been in there today. Recorded it. Lots of graffiti and it looks like barbarians smashed the place up. Druggies and homeless men probably hang out there mostly. Blockaded doors to piss future adventurers off. Graffiti mostly said "No pants" and "I'm in me mum's car"

Scary place until you realise you can chuck filing cabinets down the stairs.

Hi everyone :-)

so this is just for fun for me.

I am sitting 2-feet from my filmdex camera,

quote,

Transaction
Photo
Recorder
Model TPR-2
Pat. Pend
Serial NO.
437

end quote,

That is off the back plate of the camrea.

Age of camera is unknown, BUT,
I have used it since 1972,
oh
and am still using it now at O-Hare Airport
to accept and hand out frt. (amazing I know!)

What brought me to this web site, was my discovery of
not being able to find film for the camera.
(we had last ordered about 1-years worth, which,
with a change of business, has lasted for about 7?)

Kinda sure that this camera was in use during the 60s,
based on what I remember senior employees telling me and that
it was from our Midway location.

One amazing thing for me is, that it has never broken
nor faltered in all that time, so, whew, they really could
build stuff that would last.

Modern transaction recording systems are now digital and thus,
are more susceptible to hacking. This old film system was great,
because the film was never developed, unless there was a problem.

If anyone is still following this thread, please feel free to have a
field day with my post, but it is the truth.

I know, photo-s or it did not happen, well, maybe I can.

anyway, hope you found my post useful.

MT,

oh, and if anyone knows where I can get film, that would be great.

here is my attempt to show what our camera looks like from an
on-line image, BUT, ours is much old.

It was fun to look this up, because I forgot about the date stamper
that came with it. Now I have to search the office to see if this is
still around.

I know for a fact that the abandoned filmdex building on route 29 is haunted because a year or so ago some people I know went into the building and one of them says "it looks like a S.W.A.T team raided the building and was stomping around in it for 4 years". One of the people who went into it a few years ago got this horrible feeling and said that he wanted to kill everyone in sight of him so he had dived out of one of the broken windows and went and got in the car. But then just the other day a group of kids I know went in to the building and they walked around and all had this horrible gut feeling. Whenever they touched something they would feel this shiver yo there body. I think that its for sale but I am not sure.

Hello, this thread might be dead but i live in VA run and i am very curious about this FILMDEX... I believed it was an old CIA building that turned into a motel, i never assumed it was for porn but i can see your point. Anyways, my family has been trying to purchase that plot of land for some time now, and we have yet to have an estimate in over 7 years. There used to be for Sale signs but have mysteriously vanished. When we called, no realtor could give us any information on the cite. If you know a way in, please let me know, i would like to investigate and will document for all you. Thanks! Email me if you have any suggestions or theories, thank you again.

Hi,

I'be read through this entire thread starting from 2008 and I'm a little spooked. I live in Chantilly and got the world from a friend that we should go to this abandoned spot and I was down for it. I t was last summer,I was 16 and me and 4 friends parked by the church and walked to the FILMDEX building, the doors were blockaded but we found our way around them. We were there in the daytime so we were able to see a lot, except for the floor(which was covered completely by papers) every tax letter was from the 70's and there were just boatloads of tax papers. The motel building is filled with those filmdex cameras. The place was pretty spooky but very interesting. I can tell no one has rightfully lived there in 10 plus years but I find it creepy that their lawn was kept mowed till this day.. I can tell the upstairs of that house has been reconstructed into cubicles for accounting, but must'be been abandoned around the early 90's because I couldn't find a single paper dated past 1992. Really cool place, I suggest going in the daytime/sunlight if you're into that type of stuff.

A friend and I went there yesterday, not knowing what it really was. she had seen it driving past but never been there so we decided to check it out. the door is ripped up, all windows are broken. theres furniture and papers and shit all over the place. we didnt go upstairs because is was just us 2 and it was windy so we couldn’t tell if someone was there or just wind but we decided not to take chances. we didnt go around much inside just to the room to the right when you first walk in the front door. we didnt have time to god to the back but we’re planning on going back on a sunnier, less windy day to explore some more. ill post an update then.

Ok look, if somebody finds real answers, and goes inside, scouts the property, and pays attention to little details in the motel make a fucking video of it. I want to look up “exploring filmdex property” on YouTube and to see 1 mil views (all my accounts I will watch your video on) but still that would be sick! Let me know if you’re crazy enough to go in with a camera, and paste the link here too. Good night.

Growing up in C'ville in the 70/80's - this place was always a bit of a mystery. The most plausible theory is that it was once a legit hotel and then converted to an CIA facility of sorts. The porn theory seems like a huge stretch too me. Who's shooting porn in a remote location of C'ville, VA? The porn industry is in CA, always has been, so no need to be located across from a quarry off Rt29, unless of course you're doing Civil War porn. OMG! IMO- Filmdex, as a company is fictitious. No film related products going on there.
