On February 29, 2004, 27-year-old Fitsum Gebreegziabher was struck and killed near the Springfield mixing bown by 25-year-old Josuel P. Galdino.

Somehow, the impact caused Gebreegziabher to become entangled in the front end of Galdino's Mitsubishi Montero. Galdino left the scene and drove the 8½ miles to his home in Lorton Station with Gebreegziabher still attached to his vehicle.

Gebreegziabher's lifeless body finally fell off when Galdino arrived in his neighborhood, where it was pointed out to the Fairfax County Police officers who were called by Galdino to report the accident several hours later.
