On February 18, 1906, John F. Beach was struck and killed by a train on the Washington Southern Railway near his home in Lorton Valley.

At the time of his death, Beach was free on bond following his conviction on an assault charge stemming from his fatal shooting of Ernest Gichner at the Marine Barracks in Washington on September 9, 1905.
