On October 28, 1973, Mary E. Conlon committed suicide by hanging herself in the basement of her home at 6304 Beryl Road in Alexandria.

Esperanza Belofsky, a later resident of the home, claimed in an October, 1981 article in the Fairfax Journal that Conlon's ghost continued to haunt the house. Subsequently, Belofsky and her husband, Gary, died in a fire at the home in June of 1982.
