D.C. has really only had two successful rappers; Wale and Tabi Bonney. Wale is def. more 'streets' style, while Tabi Bonney is more of a mix between Talib Kwali and Kayne West. Tabi's beats and hooks are tight, but his bridges/breaks leave something to be desired. That being said, I shouldn't talk, because you don't see me on the airwaves. For your pleasure: A little D.C. flavor (throw your D's and C's in the air). The scenes in this video by Tabi, bring back alot of memories of 'getting up's' along the redline back in the day. That big chair by that furniture store down in Anacostia still trips me out to this day! What's up with the seizure dancing in this video, though? It's almost as bad as the west coast Crip walk and Crumpin'! LOL

Fugazi's "In on the Kill Taker" album is truly one of the high water marks of 90's punk rock, and it was recorded right here in NoVA. It's really a shame these guys don't play their free shows at Ft. Reno park anymore. I still listen to these excellent records regularly after all these years.

Yeah, I've had to drive many out-of-town friends by the old Dischord house just cuz they wanted to see it. Which is sorta funny because I'm sure it must have been real boring to hang out there with a bunch of holier-than-thou non-drinker/non-smokers talking about their favorite bike rides, tofu recipes, and the state of the American healthcare system. Nothing says "PARTY!" like straight-edge punk! You can pull it up on google maps, it still looks the same. As far as I know, people associated with the label were still living there up until about ten years ago.

The Open Mind- awesome post. I really love 60s garage rock/psychedelia, it's one of the greatest genres of rock. I have this song from some box set and will add it to iTunes immediately.

60s garage rock was the greatest.

Re: The FU Radio\Music Channel

Guided By Voices' front-man, Robert Pollard, released a seemingly endless stream of solo albums during the 90s and 00s, each falling somewhere between 60s British Invasion Who-esque bombast, early 80s college rock, and straight-up 90s lo-fi indie rock. Great stuff. I remember reading an interview by the lead singer of Radiohead (a band I don't like, BTW), and he said this album was very special to him. I thought that was pretty cool.
