What are your thoughts about Loudoun County?
Posted by: Loundouner ()

I think Loudoun is beautiful- at least most it. There are some vanilla areas, but Leesburg and west looks splendid!

Rolling hills, old historic estates, Oatlands Plantation, Foxhunts, Middleburg, the Contoctain Mountains- I think its quite an area.

The people are nice too.

What do you people think?

It's far from here and there's nothing going on out there. It's the middle of nowhere.

I've lived in this area for 14 years and except for Middleburg, never even heard of those places.

Loudoun County is where all the poor people live who can't afford FFX County homes. Basically it's no where's ville.

Apparently Meade Skelton once lived there, that should tell you how poor the place is.

Hmmm, I've hiked in the Catoctins up near Thurmont, MD, so maybe I have heard of whatever he's talking about.

LOL- "Contoctain", funny how Meade writes a song where he misspells the name of a place that he claims to be intimately familiar with.

SO WRONG - Loudoun County is the "wealthiest" county in the U.S.!

Fairfax County overtook Loudoun in terms of "wealthiest" last year.

(lol, you guys are poor :)

Loudouners are more sophisticated and better mannered than Fairfaxians (at least these days)

And its NOT poor. Poor in Loudoun means anything under 400,000$

You cant get a shack in Saint Louis on Rt. 611 for that.

Loudoun isn't for people who cannot afford Fairfax County, it's for those who (1) did not want to overpay in an overly-inflated real estate market and (2) wanted to move away from the riff-raff in and around the Beltway. Besides, it's a stretch to say that the two most populous areas in Loudoun (Ashburn and South Riding) are considered "nowhere". Each are approximately 3 miles from the Fairfax border. You can make this connection with the western part of the county (e.g. Lovettsville, Upperville, etc.) where they still have incorporation dates and populations stated on their welcome signs (est. 1853; pop. 1,157). -§

Actually Tia2, you're wrong. Fairfax overtook Loudoun by $947 this year after Loudoun held the title the previous two years. You might have this confused with Fairfax City.

It's ok, once the recession settles in (as will layoffs in certain industries), it will have more of a direct impact in populous areas like Fairfax who rely on new money for their income base compounded with the dilutive effect of having a higher population of low-income earners. Loudoun will be less affected as they are firmly boosted by old-money Virginia (equestrian estates, farms, wineries) that typically hold steady in periods of volatility. -§

Not to belabor the point, but a new study came out last year and Fairfax (surprisingly) surpassed Loudoun. Wikipedia is editable by anyone and isn't a good source of fact. More surprising was the number of counties in the top ten that were in the DC-area. I think like 5 out of ten, and 11 out of 25. We're like the upper crust over here!

Well thank god it's not anything like Richmond. Richmond is a cess pool.

Richmond is a beautiful city, unlike plastic Fairfax. Its halfway interesting, and there's lots to do here other than go to TJ Reynolds and drink beer from a keg.

If you like trash-strewn streets, boarded up store fronts and murdered college co-eds, then yes, Richmond is the place for you.

I didn't think it was possible, but I think someone finally found a woman Meade could get some from.
