No, I write this way from force of habit. Just as one is what one eats, one is also what one reads. One tends to write as one reads; I switched to British spelling almost unconsciously since most of what I read is from the Continent.

As for why I dropped, there were three factors in play:
-The SMART grant was eliminated, meaning I would have to either spend or borrow and extra $4K/yr
-The University of Idaho dropped the ball on an online senior level engineering class for which I eventually received a refund. I was to transfer there to complete my education.
-I ran the numbers and concluded that it would be unwise to continue the education if I invested the tuition money instead.

I notice you and others have tossed around 'pseudo-intellectual' without meeting any semblance of a burden of proof. It reeks of your jealousy, like a pigeon gazing upon a falcon. Therefore, I will not address your allegations and instead advise you to keep scrolling when you see my posts if they offend you so.

You want the truth you cant handle the truth.

A four year college degree is about the same as a high school diploma these days.

And therein lies one of the real tragedy of the American educational system.

So you are saying that the person who was careful with their money should bail you out for your bad luck in the short term. The US Census has determined that the average college gradate will earn more that $500K more over their life time. So I believe you should be able to pay back your $53K with no problem. Also, many (not all) people I know who got those loans have used the extra money to spend on cars and even schooling abroad. Lets forgive your loan because you want to shaft high school graduates who could not go to college.

Let me do this right Glebe RD ...

So you are saying that the person who was careful with their money should bail you out for your bad luck in the SHORT TERM. The US Census has determined that the average college gradate will earn more that $500K more than the average high school graduate over their life time. So I believe you should be able to pay back your $53K with no problem. Lets forgive your loan because you want to shaft high school graduates who could not or chose not go to college. Lets also force those who chose to defend our country to help you pay for your new house ($53K is a great down payment).

Finally, many (not all) people I know who got those loans have used the extra money to spend on cars and even schooling abroad.

LOL! It's not about paying for the class, admissions is about setting standards, you don't seem to understand this.

1.) If you hadn't transferred there yet, why did you pay for a course?

2.) If the online class wasn't available, couldn't you just take the regular classroom based course?

1. It was online/correspondence and was required for my diploma. I am of the mind that one should distribute the senior classes as evenly as possible in order to avoid constraints later.

2. Firstly, I am not in Idaho, and secondly, the local state college does not offer proper engineering courses, only 'engineering technology' courses that were rejected for transfer with the exception of the basics.

There is nothing sacred about sitting in a classroom, nor does money changing hands sanctify...or do you wish to enact standards for those who purchase apples too?

Why don't you people take Dave's advice and go deliver pizza, get rid off your fancy car, fancy phone, latest Xbox , have one big yard sale and pay off some of your school loans.

I am using the subsidised student loans as margin at 4,5% and have since doubled the money in question. The loans at 6,8% are long gone.

It's Gen Y privileged, entitled nonsense. When their parents wise up and kick them out of the house and they start to get hungry they'll get jobs appropriate to their skill set in what today's economy values them at. Then they can begin to pay back the money they borrowed to drink and major in Hungarian Literature.

Virginia - average student debt just under $20K

source - http://projectonstudentdebt.org/state_by_state-data.php

> go deliver pizza

Enormous numbers of applicants, nowhere near enough available openings for unskilled positions

> get rid off your fancy car, fancy phone, latest Xbox , have one big yard sale and pay off some of your school loans.

Prove that indebted students have fancy cars and you might have a valid point. I am not speaking of students in general, which include trust fund babies, I am speaking of indebted students...that is the burden you will meet. Even if I had a fancy telephone or an x-box to sell, it would hardly make a dent in the above $20K.

Where? Here? If one just graduated and there aren't unskilled positions in Fairfax County, one of the most expensive places to live in the country, what is holding the person here? Why not check Richmond, VA Beach/Norfolk areas, Petersburg, Lynchburg and other areas? Widen it to Charlotte NC if you want to be within range of home. Those areas will likely have lower rent as well. Anyone saying there are zero jobs of any type in the entire state for a healthy 23-year-old isn't looking hard enough.

Anywhere. The unemployment is much closer to 20% nationwide than 9%.

I did not talk about rents, so do not change the subject and then rattle on.

It is an employers market, that is for sure. However, I feel that people are not being tenacious enough about finding employment. I went for a bike ride today through Reston and Fairfax and I saw help wanted signs popped up in a bunch of store fronts. The market is saturated with applicants, but people are still finding a way to make that dollar, and opportunities are available.

Just don't try applying to Borders or any bookstores. I hear those are on the decline.

Argus "Borders or any bookstores" You just want the safe and nice places to work. Walmart is too tough for you, non intellectual and lot of non whites around you. Scared you might get mistaken for one them and dont' want that inferior entry on your resume. You took out a student loan because you are dirt poor and your family is dirt poor so Walmart shouldn't be a great embarassment to you. BTW I didn't take out or need a student loan, my dirt poor parents saved and planned for me and the shortfalls I made up my self by working (dishwashing/serving) in a lowly and great restaurant.

I'm reviewing and choosing contractor applicants for my agency new two year IT/IM worktask. Seventeen positions available and 107 submitted resumes and I only chosen only seven so far. It is not "competitive" out there any more it is desperate to find a suitable jobs. My number one choosing factor is work experience, the degrees and school don't mean a thing to me because I want results. Make yourself desperate and you will find a job.

BTW again three of the chosen don't have a degree, great work experience/military. Don't know how much they will get paid by their company. I'm funding each at 150K a man year.
