RIP Jani Lane
Posted by: METALHEAD ()

Jani Lane, the former lead singer of the metal rock band Warrant, has died in Los Angeles. He was 47.

Officer Sara Faden says Lane's body was found Thursday in a Woodland Hills hotel. She had no immediate information on the cause or circumstances of his death.

Warrant was always lame, only thing good was Bobbi Brown in that stupid video..

I saw Lane on one of those stupid rehab or weight loos shows I surfed through a few years ago, did not look like a healthy critter, glad he got to bang BB when he could.

RIP and condolences to family.

Yeah, it was Celebrity Fit Club. It was kind of sad because he was living in a shitty one bedroom apartment and looked like a pretty miserable human being. Guess that's what happens when you don't have a "Plan B." Seems like the other members of Warrant went on to get real jobs and have families.

I have two memories of Warrant songs.

One, I remember dancing with this hot chick at a club to "Down Boys." She came to the club with a big fat fuck who looked like he had organized crime connections. She must have been with him for the coke. Anyway, I didn't try to go too far with that because this guy looked like he had "put some bodies in the wishing well," if you know what I mean.

Second, my girlfriend at the time was invited to a house party. We showed up and it didn't look like a party was going on. We looked in and the girl who was throwing the party was sitting in the living room blasting "Uncle Tom's Cabin" as loud as she could. We kept knocking and ringing the doorbell and she ignored us. I don't know if she decided at the last minute not to have the party, but apparently her way of dealing with it was to be an asshole.

I saw him on some where are they now thing and he was really bitter.

Warrant was definitely a stereotypical hair metal band - fist single was a hard rocker to satisfy the guys and then follow up with the power ballad to hook the chicks.

I think I saw that. He was talking about how they released Cherry Pie and it was a huge hit and he went into the record label's office and all the Warrant promotional stuff had been taken down and it was all Nirvana. He said that was when he realized Warrant was done.

Yeah, I think it was some hyperbole on his part. I think everyone from that era blamed Nirvana for their downfall, even if it was just that glam metal ran its course.

Yeah, Warrant was on the same label as Alice in Chains and Soul Asylum, who were getting alot of mainstream attention when the whole grunge/alt stuff broke. I wouldn't doubt if the record label ordered some flannel shirts for Jani & company. There were a lot of bands that became a joke almost overnight back then (Warrant, Tesla, Mr. Big), lol.

Maybe he said "grunge" instead of Nirvana in the interview. It's been a while since I saw it. That would make sense.

You see that and wonder why someone would choose to do that to themselves. In contrast, one of the guitarists was featured on one of these VH1 shows and he was working in IT and coaching his kids' soccer games. Yeah, it may be a bit boring at times, but it's better than dying alone in a drug-induced fog in a Comfort Inn at 47.

I doubt Warrant was anyone's favorite band. It was stuff chicks listened to, and the only reason any guy liked them was because of the hot babe in their Cherry Pie video.

Seriously, play Cherry Pie without the video and see how long before you turn that shit the fuck off. It's awful.

Warrant sucked.

All glam metal sucked. But Warrant sucked less than Nelson and Faster Pussycat. I would put Warrant on par with Winger...unoffensive (musically) pop metal that didn't make you vomit.

There's a fine line between sucky metal and good metal from the mid-late 80's. And sometimes it's very hard to distinguish between the two. You have the poppy glam metal of Warrant, Winger, and to some extent Cinderella which was pretty sucky. And then you have the slightly harder hair metal of Motley Crue, RATT and Dokken, which was better.

Although I think he had a point about the record companies shoving glam metal into the toilet. In the end, it doesn't matter how popular your music is if the record company decides you're not the "next big thing" then you're fucked. Warrant, Tesla, et al were cheesy but they were making money, and the industry turned on them overnight.

I remember I was overseas at the time for a few months and when I came home all the radio stations had magically changed format at the same time, and what used to be just "rock" was now divided into "modern rock" for those under 20 and "classic rock" for everyone else. It was amazing how fast it happened.

I admit it I grew up a hair band baby....LOL... First concert I saw was Warrent/Motley Crue ( Dr Feelgood Tour ), I have to say they were really good,
I agree alot of the bands from then blamed the fade out on "Grudge" but truth is if
you were and are good you will last.

1) Bon Jovi - still growing strong

2) Bret Micheals- Love him or hate him he still puts on a kick ass show solo or with Poison.

Not to mention the bands that were just Metal not Glam

3) Metallica - Still going, first Metal Band inducted into Rock N Roll hall of fame

My all time favorite band from back then and hell even now will never reunite - Guns and Roses..... App for Destruction was one of the rock album's EVER!!

Glam Metal died because after the success of Crue, Poison and Guns N Roses, every idiot record promoter signed every piece of shit hair metal act and destroyed the genre. To be fair, the record companies did the same thing with Grunge, too.

G n' R were born out of the glam scene, but I can't really categorize them as a hair metal band. They were a hard rock band with street cred and serious musical chops. Not a bunch of pretty-boys singing party tunes.

As much as the Cobain/Grunge thing takes blame for the demise of glam metal, I'd have to say that bands like G n' R and Metallica also deserve credit. Hair metal was an extension of the 80s, and that decade was over. Alot of heavier, serious music came out and all of sudden dudes like Jani Lane or Kip Winger looked like cheesy artifacts.

Agree that G-N-R wasn't a hair metal band. But that's how they were initially marketed and it added fuel to the hair metal fire when they hit it big....

Queensryche was an 80s metal band that managed to stick around into the early 90s. They might be from Seattle, but I never confused them for that grunge stuff.

2) Megadeth- Liked them

3) Slaughter - one good song

4) Anthrax- kicked ass

5) Ratt- didn't care for them

I could never stand G&R, I always thought that was an overrated band. I guess their musicianship was okay, but they had that late 80s cheesy sound and Axl Rose's voice was like nails on a chalkboard, and he was a punkass to boot.

The Use Your Illusion albums had one or two good songs on each and that was it. The Spaghetti Incident...LOL. It's probably a good thing they broke up leaving their mystique intact, otherwise they would have just turned out shit for a few years and now be touring the classic rock tours every summer.

It seems like the bands from the trash speed metal scene from that time still have staying power. Who would have figured that? Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica... And don't sleep on the bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal from a few years earlier - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc.
