Forget GI Joe or Transformers or He Man. Anybody remember Dinosaucers? Duckula? Vytor? C.O.P.S.?

Funny. I was just trying to find a .jpg for Star Blazers.

Nothing like a little Japanese nationalism - rehab a sunken battleship and conquer the outer realms.

This is obscure as shit, Captain 20 used to have this on in the early, early 70's.

My contribution, off by a decade.

Dinosaucers and C.O.P.S. were awesome.

I remember a cartoon with a guy playing a digeridoo at the beginning but I can't remember the name and Google doesn't help. I think it was on Nickelodeon around 86 or 87.

Star Blazers isn't obscure. It has a huge following and hopefully we'll get an Engrish translation of last year's motion picture soon.

What was the cartoon where the bad guy had that flying casket? I remember the action figure was like a mummy and a coffin with wings. I'm thinking it was Thundercats.

Too bad the prediction for 1994 didn't actually happen. I'd like to make friends with a Mok.

Thundarr fucking ruled. I almost posted that the other day. Here's a few that I remember also. In the 80's anything that was popular was turned into a fucking cartoon.

It was totally lame. The three kids (hispanic nonetheless), were always getting chased by that gypsy with the stagecoach because he wanted his magic cube back. Hence, they were always in situations where they needed the help of Rubik, the magic cube, but he could only help when he was solved and wouldn't you know it, he was always getting mixed up - like if you dropped him, he would just completely scramble. But the kids were always able to solve the puzzle in about 5 moves. If memory serves me, even dogs were able to solve the cube. LOL. Retarded.

I remember seeing this in the 70s as Battle of the Planets...

...But it was repackaged (quite crappily) in the 80s as G-Force...

...However, can anything exceed the 1972 Japanese original "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman"...

Battle of the Planets was awesome, I used to love that show. But it had a different name in Japan, which is why it got confusing.

Same thing with Star Blazers, which was "Space Battleship Yamato" in Japan. To market it in the US, they decided to purge some of the Japanese nationalism from it, which is why in the US version they rename the ship "Argo" after converting the wreck of the WWII battleship Yamato into a starship.

Apparently Sandy Frank Production's rights to the series expired a few years ago and it is being reissued (I think by Warner) as a more direct adaptation of the original series. It sounds like the original Gatchaman series had some swearing in it, had more graphic violence and the villain is a transvestite. Oh, those wacky Japanese!
