I see them around alot with whites, blacks and Latinos. Its mostly young people. What does it mean? Is't some type of secret gang code that other gang members know? Can anyone shed light on it?

It means what it means and I've seen it for years too.

I think there are small cliques in diferent branches of the military that get it, but it's not exclusive to any group of people.

It's a cool phrase, doubtfully a code to it.

It's a military thing, meaning I'd rather die than be a traitor or coward, etc. Similar to the Marine tattoos "Semper Fi", but "Death before Dishonor" is generic.

I like my tattoo better - "Land Soft, Kill Quiet"!!!!!!

It is military in origin. More German than American though. All branches have a iconic motto. But I think, that one is more in line with the Nazi SS slogans then US Military. Not a bad thing, like a swastika would be though.

WHY IS A SWASTIKA A BAD THING ?
IT COULD BE A CELTIC CROSS OR A GOOD LUCK SYMBOL THAT
HAS BEEN USED BY THE HINDU INDIANS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.

A certain group of Germans permanently removed its ambiguity about 70 years ago.

Swastika in most western culture is a symbol for evil, much like the skull and crossbones is for danger, death, something not good. In India it is all over the place but a sign of luck, good fate, stuff like that. The mindset is everything, only the guy wearing the tatoo knows what it stands for while it's there. You make the guess by association. 99% of the time the mental association is correct and it is in the negative.

LIKE THE GAYS TRIED DOING TO THE "RAINBOW" ?
SORRY, BUT THE GERMANS WERE NOT THAT POWERFUL TO REMOVE RELIGIOUS
AND CULTURAL MEANINGS REACHING BACK THOUSANDS OF YEARS, SO THE SYMBOL REMAINS JUST AS AMBIGUOUS AS IT EVER WAS.

GET IT NOW ?
IN OTHER WORDS, IT WAS NOT THE GERMANS OWN SYMBOL, THEY WERE COPYCATS.
IF YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY, TELL CHEVY TO TAKE THE "SS" BADGE OFF OF ALL THEIR HIGH PERFORMANCE VEHICLES.

NNNNNKAY?

It's funny how a lot of these liberals who defend fundamental Islam, are the first to damn the Nazis when they really have the same agenda and mission, to rid the world of Christians, Jews and anyone who doesn't subscribe to their world vision, place the women in the category of breeders, and a world domination of their perceived value systems. Fundamental Islamics would have no qualms on opening up the ovens if we don't tow their lines.

When he was but a wee lad of 6 years old, Stanley A. Harris's parents dropped the him off at a ship dock in a harbor in England. He was to be schooled and raised as a merchant marine for the rest of his life. It was a scary and daunting thing for a small six year old boy. But that was his lot in life. His parents couldn't afford to raise and feed and keep him. He would be a sailor.

Over the years Stanley slowly grew into it. There was a set way to do everything. There was an order. There were rules. There was a routine to it. Whistles and bells blew each morning and throughout each day. Orders were posted upon the mast and shouted from the poop deck. He became a sailor upon the seas.

Up at 5 AM each day. To bed at midnight. Days were filled with endless toil and tasks. There was fagging. There were floggings. There was a ranking of boys and a ranking of men. There was a code of conduct. You had to pull your own weight. You had to do your duty. You had to stand watch. Lives were at stake. It was a tough and rigid life. You had to earn everything you got upon those ships whether in port or at sea, in sunshine or in fierce gales out upon the ocean.

When you pulled into port, typically on a weekend, you were given your pittance of pay to go out into town from the ships locker - a strong hold chest where the money was stored.

When he was 12 years old, and a midshipmen, some scoundrel amongst the ranks broke into the ships locker and stole everybody's pay. It was a huge scandal. The entire ships crew was berated and threatened. There was no pay for them to go on shore and enjoy their duly earned leave. But leave they did, penniless. It was a miserable leave. Everybody was angry. They had no money to spend on food and drink or sweets from the shops.

As fate would have it, the midshipmen returned to the ship after their day ashore. And they soon discovered the culprit who had stolen their pay.

He was drunk and bragging about his great time in town. Upon his arm was a brand new tattoo. It was an image of an anchor with ropes, and around it were the words "Death Before Dishonour". (British spelling).

The scoundrel thief was soon flogged, beaten, and buggered. Everybody on the ship took a turn at beating and berating him. The tattoo was cut from his flesh. His reputation was ruined. He was sent off from the ship in disgrace because he could never be trusted by his ship mates.

Stanley went on to become an SAS Commando and bravely served all over the world in various conflicts. He told us this story in one of his weekly speeches at military school when he was talking about the honor code and what it meant to him. I will never forget it and I will never forget him.

God Bless you Colonel Harris! You helped save and change my life by teaching me about honor.
