Don't know if this storm will blow up to a full blown hurricane or not, but it's slated to come awfully close to our neck of the woods by Thursday. The model shows as of 8am various tracks running over Norfolk. Latest guidance suggests it pushing a bit further westwards (> chance of severe weather)....and before anyone assumes, I'm not a weatherman, just a bit of a weather nutter.

This storm will probably result in the deaths of some Fairfax and Westfields students.

Some parents will let their kid play in a hurricane, then his friends and family will talk about what a tragedy it was when a high-velocity tree branch impaled him through the face. Hilarity will be had, punch and pie served.

Tropical storms that cross over land break up. Tropical storms have to develop out in the ocean to grow to hurricane strength.

Lurker you're right, and in this case the storm is forecast to hug the eastern seaboard before coming ashore over us. So there is definite room for intensification. I don't think it will turn into a full blown hurricane. But several storms this season have ballooned extremely rapidly so it definitely bears watching.

One model is now predicting 5-7" of rain for this area...doesn't mean we'll get it (for example the computer models got yesterdays rains completely wrong - they had called for 2-4" of rain we got <1"), nonetheless we're likely in for quite a bit of rain.

Sorry - it was a bit deliberate because I imagined people would think that and click in...made me smile.

Hope people have home insurance, some of these new houses in Fairfax will probably blow over in a severe thunderstorm like popsicle sticks.

I'm glad that I finally had the UHF/VHF TV antenna taken off my roof. Just, in, time.

Like those McMansions that only have about six to ten feet of clearance between eachother? Imagine the air pressure created around their enormously combined profiles.
