Their mom would drink and tell Meade stories about how things should have been. Cotillions, gentlemen callers, and all kinds of nonsense. Of course, her branch of the family pissed the majority of their portion of the Skelton money away. She wasn't rich enough to be a debutante and had to settle for an ethnic scumbag. She really was a cross between Blanche DuBois from "streetcar" and Amanda Wingfield from "the glass menagerie".
Randy got out like Tom Wingfield in "menagerie".
Meade stayed put and lived in that dream world like Laura Wingfield in "menagerie". Unlike Meade, Laura was a tragic figure. Society in the 1940s expected females to stay at home until they are swept away by a dude. Meade focused on getting swept away by fame and fortune, His mommy told him he was handsome, talented, and sing on national TV one day... Mothers are always so objective when it comes to their kids. The problem is Meade decided to put all his eggs in this deluded basket...
