During the Ukraine dispute Russia has put missile launchers in the area to keep Japan from #occupying (bumb rushing) it whlie Russia is busy in Ukraine.
It's a disputed island neither has currently used in any way: IT'S EMPTY.
Russia should sell it I bet Japan would over-pay. Just a guess.

only the white islands are disputed not any of the green ones - LOL
they're all empty not a single town on any of them. well. not most of them.

Japan could approach it as a mining company on the island like china has mining companies in russia. But I don't know if Russia would treat it that way. No idea why here.
