The former military officer and statesman needed as many people around him as possible to be vaccinated to diminish his chances of encountering the virus.
Vaccine opponents are seizing on the death of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who was fully vaccinated yet died of Covid-19 complications, to cast doubt on the vaccination effort against the virus.

Colin Powell's death wasn't about vaccines or not being vaccinated. The cancer that Secretary Powell had requires a very aggressive treatment regime. That cancer and treatment regime has the effect of robbing the patient of immunities, whether acquired by vaccination or otherwise, leaving the patient extremely vulnerable to whatever disease happens to be floating around.
