I am a former union member (Teamsters and UFCW). Unions are a mixed bag. In this case, though, I am in favor of seeing the union succeed. There is a Yale Law Review note (talk about obscure) that is making the rounds in corporate circles as to how Amazon's long term strategy is to have a platform monopoly. A risk strategy to be sure (WalMart and others will compete), but Amazon wants monopoly control, allowing it eventually to limit output and control prices. The union should pound on this point. It will be interesting to watch. The dynamics are unlike the auto industry - Amazon needs regional fulfillment centers.
