Stupid terms I never learned: gas lighting, mansplaining, dog whistle

I have heard these terms but I do not understand where people learned them. I don’t know what they mean. Somehow I got through college in the late 90s and did not encounter them. Is this some liberal brainwashing that everyone is trained in now?

Gaslighting is from the movie of the name "Gaslight".
It is about a poor woman whose husband drives her crazy.
He does things, makes things happen and she comments about the things and he tells her "it is all in your head".

You did not hear about them cause these are words younger people use. They were not in your lexicon back in the 90’s when dial up modems and dinosaurs were still a thing.

If I had a time machine I would go back to 1990 in an instant.
Anyone who imagines today is better... well... they missed the best times ever.
Fucking iphones and high speed internet have not made the world better.

I grew up in the 90s and agree. Much simpler times. PlayStation was fun, but much rather have spent time at the with friends, skateboarding, chasing girls than scroll up and down on a phone & be a slave to big tech. I wouldn’t even be all that upset if the whole fucking thing was blown up and we were put back in to the Stone Age. I think modern technology is a net negative.

Gaslighting has been around for generations, a term your grandparents would’ve known. Mansplain is something recent.
