I bought memory from Crucial. They have a tool on the homepage that lets you know what memory you need. http://www.crucial.com/

Make sure you get the same brand of memory, as well. Using two separate brands can cause problems.

+1 for Crucial. It's the safest way to go if you're not sure.

using seperate brands won't do shit as long as it is the same type ie. 3200 DDR2 or whatever you already got in there up to the max capacity available for your computer.

also PNY and Corsair are just as good as Crucial. Don't believe the monkey's with a keyboard, as they don't know shit about computers.

SOURCE: computers... i build them.

Actually, Mephisto was correct when he said NOT to use dissimilar brands of RAM.

There is a good chance different brands will work fine, but if you are using dual channel, there can be stability issues, and some motherboards are extremely sensitive to different brands.

Wow, that's such an exclusive skill that I totally wish I knew. It's not like I ever installed a new stick of RAM of a different brand than the one I currently had, which caused my computer to randomly crash anywhere between five minutes to a half hour of use.

If I had, I'm pretty sure I fixed the problem through prayer and fasting, and NOT by putting only one brand of RAM into my computational machine.

Animal sacrifice usually works for my computers. Dells prefer small dogs while HPs usually require a rabbit.

I couldn't fucking wait, this computer was runing so slow. I hit BB in Springfield and got 4gb for just about $100.I wanted to find out what I needed and then shop it online and save a dollar or two, but fuck it.

This sucker is cooking now. I've got 3 or 4 windows open with mutliple tabs in each, I can't seem to make it crash!

Plus, they don't make antibiotics powerful enough to cure all the infections and viruses you'd pick up from Microsoft fucking you in the ass.

At least they make an attempt...they use sheep-skin condoms which have been kept in their wallet and expired in 1994.

im certain it is but dont ask me, ask google. however, i know from personal experience that windows is a total bitch when it comes to bootloaders because it's more possessive than a crackhead is to his crack.

there are also "live discs" which are bootable disc (CD or DVD) versions of a full installation.

+1.5. During my venture into the scary world of Linux, the Linux bootloader took over, and I couldn't get to Windows at all.

If you want multiple OSes without the bootloader headaches, try using virtual machine software. VirtualBox is relatively easy to use. I've got an Ubuntu Linux guest installed on my Windows 7 laptop, and it's pretty stable and seamless. http://www.virtualbox.org/
