VA Tech Kicks Delta Zeta Sorority Off Campus- Toga! Toga! Toga!

Va. Tech sorority kicked off campus

Virginia Tech has removed a sorority from campus because of several incidents of alcohol consumption inside the chapter’s house.

The university has denied recognition of the Delta Zeta chapter for two years.

The incidents violate an in-house alcohol ban set by Delta Zeta’s national sorority as well as the university.

Virginia Tech officials say the violations occurred over the last couple years, with the latest incident reported in January.

Assistant director of student conduct Byron Hughes said Monday that sorority members living in the house can stay there until the end of the school year. Virginia Tech’s campus housing division administers leases for Delta Zeta and the 11 other sorority houses.

A representative of Delta Zeta’s national office didn’t return a phone message.

Lol. The "Sleazy DZ's" as we used to call them. They were mostly whores back in the early/mid-90's - at least at VT.

Anytime someone talks like this, it pretty much means they never got laid.

Is it me or do the laws regarding alcohol consumption seem draconian? You used to be able to drink at age 18 and I don't remember riots in the streets. At least no more than you have today with a college winning a national championship at some sport.

I would vote for the politician that treats 18 year olds as adults. A politician that would not be pushed into voting for more strict penalties just to appease someone who doesnt drink at all.

Some 18 year olds already have a full time job or are in the military. Are you telling me a man or woman who works forty hours a week should be denied a beer at the end of the day because a few others abuse alcohol.

I swear this country has turned into a bunch of pussies.

True, but back years ago when the drinking age was 18 we didn't have kids jumping off buildings or setting themselves on fire for viral videos.

EDIT: I forgot to add, yes I support allowing beer at 18. You can vote, be in a porn, legally an adult. Sure why not beer too!

I know but 21 is the age across the whole country unless you want to lower it to 18. In doing so a state would lose federal highway funds and no state will do that.

Right now in Virginia if you are under 21 and found with alcohol it is a class one misdemeanor. The same class offense as if you went up to a total stranger and punched them in the face. I dont see the crimes as being in the same league.

I am not saying alcohol laws dont serve a purpose but the politicians keep piling on more laws and stiffer penalties just to not appear soft on law and order.

It is worse.

When MD changed their legal age - a process I was intimately familiar with - 2 separate studies were presented to the powers that be. One study said that if you raise the speed limit to 65 mph on some highways, it will cause the accident death count to go up by XXX the following years.

Then a study that was presented to the powers that be said if the state raises the drinking age to 21, the highway accident death count will go down by YYY.

XXX and YYY were very similar. So the state legislature anxious to up the speed limit, upped the drinking age as well and all would even out.

Around this time, the nation began taking a firm stance on the issue of drunk driving. And because it was apparent that a 21 drinking age law reduced alcohol-related fatalities and injuries, there was a groundswell to help decrease drunk driving deaths and injuries by raising the minimum drinking age to 21. President Ronald Reagan responded to growing evidence that a 21 drinking age law would save lives.

On July 17, 1984, President Reagan signed into law the Uniform Drinking Age Act mandating all states to adopt 21 as the legal drinking age within five years. By 1988, all states had set 21 as the minimum drinking age, which is where it should remain.

"Since that time, the 21 minimum drinking age law has saved about 900 lives per year as estimated by the National Traffic Highway Administration (NHTSA)."

Honestly, that's not that much for a nation of 300M

The same argument could be made to raise the drinking age to 25 or even 30. As you raise the age the amount of accidents would most certainly decrease.

These underage drinking cases do nothing but clog the court system and fund the dysfunctional VASAP program. At minimum, the State should be able to hear these cases in JUVENILE court where it is not a permanent blot on what could be an otherwise spotless criminal record.

Is there anyone here who did not take at least a sip of alcohol before age 21?

Maybe if you are Muslim or Amish you did not, but most people do.

Mostly called the "Easy DZ's" now.

I heard from another girl that a bunch of sorority girls conspired against DZ, aka snitching on them while they were drinking at the house as well as turning in Facebook pictures involving alcohol to the faculty. Pretty low if such rumors are true.. but then again, 90% of Greek girls are annoying alcoholics anyways.
