WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Thursday afternoon U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the first four contractors that will build border wall prototypes in San Diego.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Ronald Vitiello addressed a room full of reporters on Thursday afternoon in Washington D.C. to make the announcement on the progress on border wall prototype construction.

Construction is now scheduled to begin in the fall, although CBP will be discussing the timeline with vendors.

Four contractors have been granted agreements to construct concrete border wall prototypes:

Caddell Construction Co. (DE), LLC of Montgomery, AL
Fisher Sand & Gravel Co., DBA Fisher Industries of Tempe, AZ
Texas Sterling Construction Co. of Houston, TX
W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company of Philadelphia, MS

The prototypes will feature characteristics such as reinforced concrete and heights between 18 and 30 feet. They have been “designed to deter illegal crossings in the area in which they are constructed,” according to a CBP press release.

You keep telling us that, and yet the process keeps moving forward.

What process? Building 30 miles by throwing 1.6 billion dollars down the drain? You call that progress? I call that the scam getting worse.

Yes, the typical government process of procuring infrastructure. I wouldn't put it past those GOP cucks in Congress, many of them ball-licking slaves of the COC, to undermine the President, but Trump is doing what he said he'd do. If it's not funded, he can't do it. Unlike the last incompetent, lawless president, Trump will follow the constitution. Refreshing, no?

Actually I believe he can. Trump has the power to unilaterally build the wall.

No, Trump can only spend funds that are authorized by Congress. If they don't fund it, then he can't build it. Even if he got the Mexicans to pay out if up front instead of retro-actively like he's now planning, he couldn't spend that money either without authorization from Congress.

Do you understand how our government is supposed to work or has 8 years of illegal, extra-constitutional lawlessness from Obama clouded your understanding?

The laws are already on the books giving him full authority to build the wall. He could push forward on it and reallocate resources until congress act. But he doesn't because congress would probably step in and bitch slap him and he is going to also get sued up the ass by local land owners along the border.

You really need to inform yourself.

It was pretty much a PROMISE of Trump's that he'd get the wall built...and paid for by Mexico.

To the extent he can't, for whatever reason, but specifically, because he "can't get funding from Congress" clearly highlights not only his fundamental shortcomings in understanding just how American government works, but the willingness of quite few people to overlook that.

If the wall can't get funded, there is one man, and one man only to blame.

The guy that promised it.
