Why do people like to waste other people's time? What do they get out of it?

I get stupid questions from people I work with all of the time. They ask me to get involved when they are trying to sell stuff to customers. They (employees and customers) ask the stupidest questions! It's almost like they can't think for themselves!
It's not just my coworkers and their customers! It's everyone!
