Air Traffic Controller on Phone with Girlfriend During Hudson Crash
Date: August 14, 2009 10:47AM

So apparently the air traffic controller who was supposed to be keeping an eye out on the plane that collided with the helicopter over the Hudson was talking on the phone to his girlfriend instead of controlling traffic during the accident...

Controller: Hey sweet tits. What's shaking?

Girlfriend: Nothing, hon. How are you doing?

Controller: Oh, I'm doing great now that I am talking to you.

Girlfriend: What are you doing?

Controller: Besides talking to you? Nothin'

Girlfriend: Ain't you watchin' no planes?

Controller: Yeah, you know. But this is a cake job. Ain't nothing bad gonna happen as long as I'm here. What you doin?

Girlfriend: I'm watching CNN. They're saying a plane just hit a helicopter.

Controller: Fuckin amateur air traffic controllers! Where'd that happen?

Girlfriend: Over the Hudson.

Controller: (Sounds of grunt as pants are shat)

That's because you have no need to compensate....unlike a certain § character that gets the biggest car he can afford, all in the name of "booty."

I hate BMWs as much as I hate Lexuses or any other japanese-derivative appliances. In fact, I hate BMWs more. There's just too many of the same type of car on the road in NoVA.

It would be nice if other car manufacturers stepped up to the plate and started producing something that was distinctive and reliable. For example, I'd like to see Lotus come out with a mid-level production sedan or Fiat make it's way stateside again. Hell, I'll take anything Italian that's not priced into the stratosphere.

Re: Air Traffic Controller on Phone with Girlfriend During Hudson Crash

I'm by far a "car-guy" but aren't Italian cars known for legendary unreliability?

Not going to be possible. Lotus has a cost structure such that it is building cars at a price point where a few thousand more to the customer doesn't mean shit. If a sheik wants Elise, he's going to buy it. Hell, he'll probably send a 767 over to England to pick it up.

Changing production models to an effiency based operation is probably not on Lotus' radar screen.

Agreed @ ITRADE. It's also the reason why exotics like Ferrari and Lambroghini won't do it either. It would dimish their goodwill value as an exotic car company.

Lotus, like Maserati, are relatively lower priced and offered stateside, but just not on the same level of marketing as Jaguar or Rover (who are now owned by Tata). I'd like to see Maserati offer an entry-level sedan to compete with the 3/5-series, C/E-class, A4/A5/A6 segments at around $50-60k. I think they could pull it off without damaging the value of the brand (they aren't even in Ferarri's league). Lotus on the other hand, offer more of the roadster type vehicles and for them to push into the sedan world, their pricing point would surely be north of $60k.

I do like the Porsche sedan above. I never have even seen it until now.

I'm just tired of looking at the same tired cars on the road these days. I will say that although I don't like the style of American cars, I'm really impressed with the new Camaro, the Challenger and the Cadillac CTS-V. They look very aggressive and buyable.

My problem with the Cayenne is that it looks EXACTLY like the VW Toureg.

If the Toureg was non-existent, I'd say it's a buy on originality.

I've done a lot of flying in my time. It wouldn't matter what the Air Traffic Controller was doing, he is not responsible for low flying aircraft.

The pilot in the plane or helicopter was probably staring out the window at something or sneaking a peek at some hot chicks tits aboard. Remember the helicopters blades are a huge suction fan. Had the pilot gone under instead of over he probably would of made it. Going over the blades sucked the small plane into the helicopter.

Aircraft operating under visual flight rules outside or beneath the Tower's airspace are not
required to use air traffic's services and fly unrestricted. A pilot can freely select his or her route
and altitude with no restrictions other than those flight rules establishing minimum altitudes for
flights over populated areas and required separation distances from clouds and terrain. The
Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 91.119 indicates that, except when necessary for
departure or landing, the minimum altitude over urban areas is 1,000 feet above ground level
(AGL) and 500 feet AGL over rural areas.

Unfortunately for these controllers, they will get fucked over anyway. Odds are it was error on the plane pilot's part (sounds like he may have screwed up an evasive maneuver and dove into the copter instead of pulling away). At least, that's what it sounds like with the information that has been presented so far.

I think what he's trying to say is that Lexus are boring quasi-luxury cars that resemble everything the japanese are good at. Inventing appliances.

Everyone knows money is what girls want, which is loosely translated to high-end cars. :)

Who doesn't like the R8? It's like the Carerra GT or MB McLearen. It's one of the best cars out there. It's too bad only certain people can afford that bad ass ride.

Lexus may be seen as bland or utilitarian, but the reliability reports do not lie. Lexus is always near the top along with Infiniti and Acura. Kia and Hyundai score higher than German luxury cars, and British luxury cars are always rock bottom.

I'll take a boring car that will run without problems over an Audi that will be falling apart by the time the warranty expires.

Yeah, lexus hasn't really been a exciting since 1995. They are what I call "plain jane" vehicles. Like an ugly girl, it's not exactly turning heads or gonna wow anyone, but she'll still put out. It's funny, but if you google a car name with the word gay, the same articles pop up for all brands. I guess that means my ride is gay too.

How is this on topic with the air crash again?

In the design department, Lexus, Acura, and Audi are all pale imitations of Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar. Just telling the truth.

I do really like jaguar actually. The jag reminds me of James Bond flicks while the benz is used by most of the Bond villans. Very stylish. If I had to choose between japanese and german though, it would be german all day. Europe just has better heritage with their cars while japan has only been at it for a half century,.

Mechanically, I would go with Japanese cars. They are very well engineered and built. Both of our vehicles are Japanese and I never have problems with them.

As for style, definitely German vehicles. Performance-wise, they are great cars. But mechanically, they tend to have issues.

The air traffic controller handling the small plane involved in a deadly crash with a helicopter over the Hudson River was chatting on the telephone about a dead cat at the airport and initially failed to warn the pilot of other aircraft in his path, officials say.

The controller tried unsuccessfully to contact the pilot before the accident, officials said Friday, but the plane collided with a tour helicopter over the Hudson River, killing nine people.

The controller handling the plane and his supervisor at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey at the time of the accident a week ago have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
