No. McCain is a hero in the sense he survived the ordeals of the POW thing, he is in fact a hero to himself and perhaps a hero to the American virtue of enduring the worse circumstances. Like the folks who survived the "Dust Bowl" of the 1930s, the folks who survived the Depression, the folks who recovered from the 911 or Boston Bombing incident are heros in that sense also. He is not a War Hero though.
