Very true! I had forgotten about that! It could save you a lot of money...

I scratched my $90 22 inside and out it still shoots fine not the most accurate thing in the world but it works. You can buy new barrels but they are pricey.

leave this on your computer screen, back up about 20 feet. If you can hit the target the gun is ok.

If you know what you're doing, you make sure there's a round in the chamber before refiling the barrel, too.
It's always good practice to ensure that there is a round in the chamber at all times, especially when pointing it directly at your face. It's also good practice to use a rod that is too big to fit down the barrel of your .22, since that will ensure a proper cleaning.

I don't think it would affect anything other than accuracy, but you should always have your weapon looked at if you're not 100% comfortable with it.
