Lakisha Swift holds a photo of her late son, KeAir.

The trial date was set last week for Johnathan Sails after Sails’ request to toss out the charge against him was denied in November by then-judge Peter J. Maceroni of Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens. Judge James Maceroni, who took over Jan. 1, will preside over the case.

Prosecutors say Sails, 25, was in control of a swimming class at the school in November 2013 when KeAir Swift, a 14-year-old ninth-grader, was pulled from the bottom of the pool. He died four days later.
