Falls Church boy's race record rejected

Tuesday - 6/3/2014, 11:20amĀ  ET

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) -- A road-racing organization has rejected a 10-year-old Falls Church boy's submission of a world-record time in a half-marathon for his age.

The Association of Road Racing Statisticians says that the 1:35:02 time run by Reinhardt Harrison can't be certified as a record because the course in the May 25 Alexandria Running Festival was altered after it had been approved.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1l2QVBF ) that the course was changed to accommodate concerns of park officials.

As it turns out, Harrison's time would not have stood as a record, anyway. The association certified a new record for 10-year-olds over the weekend -- a time of 1:34:53, run last year by Hunter Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and submitted after Reinhardt's time received media attention.
