A Rational Approach to Heroine Use

Some day...perhaps we'll start to approach a medical disease as a medical disease...instead of a sin.

You reduce Heroine use by making it more accessible. Hmmm.

While I don't agree with George Will on a lot of things, I do agree with his sentiment that when you subsidize a certain behavior, you get more of that behavior.

We need to regulate Heroin the way we regulate alcohol. Because, you know, nobody abuses alcohol or breaks the law while using it. And we know how having it legal has resulted in fewer people drinking.

Well..if the European action plan was nothing more then to "subsidize" heroine use you'd be right...but it's not. George's statement which which you seem to support is the typical response anything but prohibition gets in this country...even when faced with the facts and the science proving differently. As if efforts in prohibition have ever worked.

We have a legal prescription drug system that gets thoroughly abused already. Adding heroine to the mix doesn't make much sense.

How much is wasted enforcing our drug laws today? The waste dwarfs whatever it would cost to effectively manage a heroin addict. Providing the illegal drug market a monopoly is a form of subsidy you and George Will are refering to...if we want the uncontrolled distribution and maximum profiteering for the distribution of heroin....provide a monopoly to the distributors.

* In 2000, 43 percent of those who ended up in hospital emergency rooms from drug overdoses-nearly a half million people-were there because of misusing prescription drugs.
* In seven cities in 2000 (Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seattle, and Washington, DC) 626 people died from overdose of painkillers and tranquilizers. By 2001, such deaths had increased in Miami and Chicago by 20 percent.
* From 1998 to 2000, the number of people entering an emergency room because of misusing hydrocodone (Vicodin) rose 48 percent, oxycodone (OxyContin) 108 percent, and methadone 63 percent. The rates are intensifying: from mid-2000 to mid-2001, oxycodone went up in emergency room visits 44 percent.

tell me vinke, how does one "manage" a heroin drug? btw, injecting heroin and smoking crack cocaine are the two most addictive forms of drug abuse. seriously, just shoot up once with heroin and quit. it seems you have no idea what an addiction really is.

Gravis...dear boy! What are you trying to say...you certainly arent reading what I wrote. I didnt say anything about managing a heroin drug...I said manage a heroin addict....a person..a person with an addiction...and that person...and their addiction certainly can be managed. It can be managed poorly as we do today...or effectivelty as the BBC News reported.

Oh please stop with the stupidity. I am not espousing anyone getting addicted to heroin...what I am saying is that our current drug policies are ineffective and full of idealogue beliefs vs facts on how to deal with people who are addicted. Stop being such an asshole and sensationalizing everything thats posted on this site.

I like the way this thread is going! Lol...what a joke you are. Have you started paying rent to your parents yet?

I would be up for using this heroine irrationally...

I would not fuck Angelina Jolie. Nor would I fuck Pamela Anderson.

I would, however, fuck Elliot Spitzer's call girl. Delicious!

Jennifer Aniston is way hotter than Angelina Jolie.

Totally. When I heard who Angelina's father was, and realized how much they look alike, it was totally ruined for me.

Angelina was turbo hot before she got all tatted up and became Brad Pitts personal sperm bank.

Jennifer Aniston's "hotness" is inversely proportional to her high-maintenance neediness and whining.

OK boys and -yes- girls, here are two of what I'd say are equivalent pictures...

Vote now:

#1 Angelina (aka Brad Pitt's current sperm depository)

#2 Jennifer (aka Brad Pitt's former sperm repository)

I cast my vote for the one that doesn't look exactly like John Voight.
