Home Depot cutting coverage for 20,000 as Obamacare looms

Sep 19, 2013, 3:18pm EDT UPDATED: Sep 19, 2013, 5:02pm EDT

The Home Depot Inc. will end medical coverage for some 20,000 part-time employees, sending them instead to government exchanges, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
The Atlanta-based home improvement retailer is just the latest company to cut benefits before Obamacare exchanges are set to open Oct. 1.

Home Depot (NYSE: HD) employees who work 30 hours or fewer a week will no longer be offered limited liability medical coverage, Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes said. The Affordable Care Act defines part-time workers as those who work 30 hours or fewer per week.

They have a greedy idiotic outspoken heartless Republican CEO. People should boycott Home Depot and start doing it now.

Boycott Home Depot? Lowe's is lame, and there aren't any other options out there.

I like Lowe's better anyway.

My guess is that the "coverage" that Home Depot offered it's part time employees was crap, and they're better off in the exchanges.

I could be wrong, but I'm betting that I'm right. I'm too fucking tired to try to check it out myself.

Likely so as most all part-time coverage goes. But at least it was paid.

Now you get to subsidize all of them.

Congrats, yours is a boy.

A 56 year old former Pascal programmer name Roy.

Who says it was paid. You think there wasn't an employee contribution? I really fucking doubt if it was an employer paid benefit. But as I said, I'm too fucking tired, and now pretty loaded, to look it up.

If you voted for the Marxist Messiah, Obama, then you deserve what you get..

The writing has been on the wall since Teleprompter Jesus started to push for a single payer system...

He quit after Home Depot canned his benefits.

But then Lowes will too...

Big business can dump their costs onto the taxpayer. That's what happened with Bush's Medicare Advantage and D plans. Home Depot is sending their employees to the government-subsidized health insurance system.

Contribution if different from paying 100 percent yourself.

His life was almost perfect. Great job doing very little for a lessor known electric car company in Mississippi.

Then Terry traded some visas for a big building in China and the next thing he knew...........Home Depot was the only place hiring.

It's not a fucking single payer system. I'd have fucking loved it if he'd pushed a single payer system. It's the only thing that makes any sense. Obama has never favored a single payer system.

Not true. He definitely does favor single-payer and has said so multiple times. He just knows that won't fly at the moment. The current changes as he, Pelosi, et al have noted is viewed as a step in that direction.

This is all part of the plan. Really. To get companies to dump their employees onto the exchanges (either just pay the fine for non-coverage or pay a set amount for employees to buy coverage) then have the feds control the exchanges. Yes, I know they are state exchanges but once the feds start providing them block grants and that other nonsense, then they call the shots.
