Spanair Flight JK 5022 of the SAS Group, registration EC-HFP[1], was a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 flight from Barajas Airport in Madrid to Gran Canaria Airport in the Canary Islands, Spain, on 20 August 2008. The flight crashed immediately after takeoff from runway 36L of Barajas Airport at 14:23 CEST[2] (12:23 UTC) becoming the first deadly accident in Spanair history.

RIP to the victims of this tragic accident. What's even sadder is that they didn't even get off the ground, they just burned to death.

Yes, it is definitely less sad when they die upon landing and then burning. At least then they may have gotten 1/2 a soda and a bag of peanuts.

Rumors are the plane exploded before it went off the runway. Terrorism?
