Ashburn Woman Killed In Rt. 15 Crash

Virginia State Police have identified driver who died in a three-car wreck on Rt. 15 yesterday morning as Carol R. Wooten, 53, of Ashburn.

Police were alerted just before 6:30 a.m. to a truck driving erratically and a trooper located the northbound vehicle just as it crossed the centerline and struck a van and a pickup.

Wooten was the driver of the northbound pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Brunswick, MD, woman driving the southbound pickup was flown from the scene to an area trauma center for treatment of injuries considered life threatening. The driver of the southbound van was not injured.

The crash, which occurred north of Gilbert's Corner, remains under investigation.

Rt. 15 was closed for about three hours.

Of Ashburn, VA died suddenly and unexpectedly as the result of a car accident on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. She is survived by her son, Marvin L. Wooten, Jr. and his fiance, Safiya Jenkins. Other survivors include her brothers, Marshall (Debbie) Smith, Jr. and Tom (Debbie) Smith and her sisters, Mary Jo Farley and Teresa (Frank) Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Marian (Morris) Smith, Sr., her husband, Marvin L. Wooten, Sr. and sister, Judy Hickey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, (today) September 3, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21370 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20148. Interment will be private at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, VA. Condolences may be offered online at:
