The Merrifield Tower does not belong to VDOT, but to a television broadcast station. The tower serves many clients, including cell phone providers, and the military, as well as the television broadcast stations.

Does anyone remember about 10-12 years ago when there was a guy who climbed about 2/3rds of the way up the tower and refused to come down? I believe he spent about 3 days up there.

Anyone who beleives that tower is for a public TV station is gullible. How many other TV stations have a tower that tall around here? Now there may ALSO be a TV station broadcasting from there, and a bunch of cell phone carriers, but I would bet that towers main purpose ain't public TV.
