On April 27, 2005, Del Ray resident Lew Barber was shot and killed by Alexandria Police. There's much controversy over his death, and whether it was justified or not. Read more about this at this website setup by one of his neighbors and friends:

of course it was controversial.. the cops killed a white dude

Well, yeah, but I was concentrating more on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and whether it was justified. It seems like one of those iffy situations.

What is the controversy? The guy took his kid hostage with a deadly weapon - maybe he was a nice guy but he blew it.

He was was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was then transferred to a better hospital, where doctors upgraded his condition to ’alive’.
