I would buy a new one but they don't make them like they used to. Most are made for dubbing or copying and give you little control over recording. I like my 30 yo Onkyo deck because it has actual VU meters, mic inputs, 3 heads, fade out, input/output volume and a whole bunch of other bells & whistles but the motors & belts are worn and some lights are out. I don't mind paying to get it refurbished. Can anyone answer my original question?

DUMAS electronics on Draper Dr in Fairfax has been around for 40+ years and can work on most anything.

it's not going to cost much to fix a solid state tape deck... but if its damaged beyond repair, then you go to ebay or craiglists (or thrift store) and get a new old one.
