I've always found calzone to be good but there's too much boring dough. I wish someone made panzerotti around here!

What's a panzerotti (OK, "panzerotto", but this isn't Italy)? It's a calzone that has been deep-fried briefly. You might say "Eww, gross" -- but if it's done right, it just makes the thing more delicious, not greasy. Think chimichanga vs. burrito.

They were big for a while in the 70s, then vanished for some reason. I've Googled, found a few places that still make 'em, but not around here.

And if you can prove me wrong on that last, please do!!!

That's a dumpling you're fucking, not a calzone.

Nothing better than a room temperature Perdue Oven Stuffer Roaster for some easy lovin.

Better to use a raw(uncooked)bird, as the cooked chicken tends to fall apart during vigorous pumping.

Use to drive up and get them twice a year for a fundraiser we would do. They are the real deal, legit Panzarotti. SO good!

Wow! None around here still, but next time I'm heading up to NJ I will see if I'll be near any of these. Thanks!

Villa Bella in Burke is the best place I have found. It's in the shopping center with the Walmart formerly a K-Mart.

Calzones need to have lots of ricotta, otherwise you might as well just eat a pizza.

Bazzanos in Ravensworth used to have the best calzones in the area. Too bad the Korean real estate mafia shut them down.

Primo Italiano in Plaza Americana in Reston had awesome, very large calzones. I just checked and Yelp is reporting that it's closed now though.

Yeah, it's gone. Noticed that a couple of weeks ago.

They really were not shut down. The Koreans like to raise the rents on non-Korean business.

Don Mcilvaine owns Ravensworth Properties LLC.
... pretty sure he isn't Korean or part of any real estate mafia.
But keep derpin' if it makes you feel better.

Do any of the chain type places (Paisanos, Pizza Boli, Vocellis, etc.) make a decent calzone?

Paisanos is okay. I had one from Manhatten pizza a couple weeks back and it was terrible, all cold in the middle and really bland sauce.

My favorite calzone outside of NYC is Mamma Mia in Manassas.

Surprisingly enough, Paisanos does make a decent calzone, at least my local one does. I get one about once a month, steak, onions and provolone, they don't skimp on the ricotta or mozz.

There is an Italian restaurant near the infamous Strath Road. Some guy named MJB told me they have Calzones there. However, he's not an Honest Abe.

Mamma Lucia's in the Fair City Mall. Best I've had since Philly or New York City. The pizza is great too.
