Did the punk have insurance or are the taxpayers on the hook for that new fire hydrant and piece of sidewalk?

To the family and friends of Paul: Let me join the few normal people on Fairfax Underground that have expressed condolences in the tragic loss of Paul. I was there and regret that there was nothing we could do to save him. As one of the first people to reach the vecical I can tell you there was no sign of life, he was already gone. It was very fast and I'm sure he didn't suffer.

To the various posters that have posted some of the garbage above I pray you never loose a friend or love one in such a tragedy. Some of you obviously have zero sense of compassion for anyone. It's like you are dead inside and feel nothing for anyone. You are the perfect example of what happens when our schools teach that man came from an animal. You have become animals, you are an embarrassment to humanity. The need to make cruel jokes, harass friends of someone that was killed and demonstrate what savages you are is pathetic. I met one of Paul's best friends the other day. He was grieving the loss of his friend as is many of his friends and they don't need your mean spirited, psychotic remarks. Oh and the Vigil that some idiot was mocking, tons of people were there. God bless you all as you adjust to the loss of your friend.

Yup. That's FXU for you.

Eh, I think you go off the rails there a bit. People have been perfectly capable of being terribly cruel to one another in every age and circumstance.

@Gordon - My point is that even responsible drivers can make a mistake. That obviously was not the case here.

By the way, it's easy to kill yourself doing 35 on a road like this -- jerk the wheel to the left and hit another car doing 35 in the opposite direction.

Hitting a car going the other direction is basically the same as hitting a telephone pole, tree, or wall.

@stat - http://bit.ly/OeKrBr
@Kardinal - only if that telephone pole or tree is doing 35 MPH too LoLz - no, my friend..........not the same thing at all.........
@Ito - yeah.............but you know Hoss wasnt going 35...........And on a street like that, why would you be jerking the wheel around, y'know? If this crash happened on Springvale or Leigh Mill, I'd feel differently cause those are twisty country backroads. Or like I could COMPLETELY understand this crash happening on something like Telelgraph. But Leesville? I'm sorry but if you are stupid enough to drive in such a way on such a road that you could actually FLIP your vehicle? You are a cpl passengers shy of an HOV lane, plain and simple.

Yes, they are the same thing. Lrn2Physics.

When two things collide, the overall energy is divided between the two. A car is designed to be far more compressible than a tree, pole, or wall, so it absorbs a great deal of the energey. Non-compressible objects like trees, poles, and walls do not absorb any of the energy, so it all goes into the car that hits them.

Basically, if two of the same cars of the same mass and compressibility hit each other head-on going 100mph, it's EXACTLY the same as one of those cars hitting a wall going 100mph. The only differences are when one car is more massive or less compressible than the other. That's why if one of them is a bus or a rig, it's MUCH worse for the car they hit, because the overall energy is much higher, and the larger vehicle is far better able to absorb that energy than the smaller.

I didn't know Paul but want his family and friends to know that I have had them in my prayers as they grieve the loss of him. This is a terrible tragedy as all accidents are. I am truly sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for you.

To those weak minded and sick individuals writing cruel things and making fun of the tragic death of this young man, I never knew there were so many mentally I'll

People in Fairfax county but you are in luck because you can have yourselfs checked into the mental hospital right next to the hospital and maybe they could help you because anyone who laughs at such a horible tragedy is truly sick in the head. I pray you get help and pray the citizens will continue to work together to get this awful site banned or work together to make it a site that can heal and not hit with words.
Again my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Paul. I am praying for you and I know other compassionate individuals in Fairfax county are as well so ignore these mentally ill
Terrorists on this site they are clearly sick individuals and do not represent the majority of Fairfax citizens.

The next time you talk to your imaginary friend, I mean baby Jesus, could you ask him why he hasn't sent me the 42 virgins I asked him for?

Please ask the sky daddy why he hasn't made it rain for a few weeks.

I figure you must be in good with him. Every time I have tried to speak with god I never hear anything. When you talk to him, do you hear his voice? Or does he just appear to you on a piece of toast or as a stain on a window?

@ito - you need to unblock yr ears if you really wanna hear Him :)

@praying - it's not mentally ill to drive normal speed in residential neighborhoods ................

it's not mentally ill to be pissed off at people who could have given a fuck about other ppl as they drive thru the neighborhood at high rates of speed that could kill others...........

Aint funny what happened. Aint funny at all.

As for yr friend - FUCK HIM! You want to paint the "it was just a simple accident picture",you go ahead and do that................but it's still BULLSHIT! Aint no way he was driving normal speed when this accident happened. And if you ppl CONTINUE to make excuses for his behaviour, then he's just going to look like MORE of an asswipe.

Not an accident if yr traveling too fast for roadway conditions.

Seriously, of all the fucked up, winding, poorly engineered roads in Northern VA, with all the crazy traffic we have on the major roads like the Beltway, 395 and the FFX County Parkway, it's hard to believe this fuck up managed to kill himself by speeding down this rather nice residential street at 11;45 on a Tuesday night under perfect weather conditions.

The funny thing is that people come to his defense saying, "He hadn't been drinking!"

For me this makes it even worse! At least if he had been drunk you might understand the stupidity involved.

The bottom line is that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I believe there were airbags in that SUV too. If he had at least buckled up, he would probably still be terrorizing the roads of NOVA like all the other idiots.

Right you are. A few months ago the power steering hose in my Explorer burst. Fortunately I was in a parking lot when it happened. You never know.

@Ito - It really is sad how quickly life can be taken. Not a single moment is promised to us, y'know?

First off, I'm gay. I've loved the dick since I can remember, and big black dick is my favorite. I should've come out da clozet a long time ago, but just didn't find the oportunity. I was speeding home to suck my boyfriends dick and get fucked when it happenned. I wasn't drunk, but I was high.... high on getting some dick. So i'm driving down the road, sexting Latrell, and next thing you know, nigga gets my dick hard so I start playin with muhself and boom. Fire Hydrant. See now if i were any smarter i woulda probably worn muh seatbelt, but i was in such a rush to get this ass stuffed with some african snake, i didn't even think twice about it.

HONESTLY...
Paul was a good person to his friends and his family. Have some compassion to the people who loved him that might be reading this. He died so recently, it's still a shock. A man's death is nothing to laugh at you morons, what if this was your brother? Or son? Or boyfriend?... God knows that everyone makes mistakes and I know that every single person postng on this site has gone over 25 in a residential zone at one point in their lives.
He didn't die of something stupid, he died in a tradgic, unexpected accident that shook the lives of tpeople who were close to him. And he is not a pathetic fool for it. There's no telling as to why these things happen but I guess we all have our time. It's ridiculous to try to accept that maybe this was just his; and maybe it's none of any of your business to be judging him in any way. He doesn't even get to breathe anymore, and you're sitting there typing about how dumb you think he is. You're the pathetic ones.

Ok, Honestly? This is NOT a site to mourn. I'm telling you - STAY AWAY FROM HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE TRULY FEEL ABOUT YOUR FRIEND. IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE IT, THEN MOURN YOUR FRIEND IN PRIVATE! But this is a public thread and we have opinions on it you may not want to hear. I truly am sorry for the loss you feel in your heart..............so PLEASE take my advice and STAY AWAY from this thread if you are not ready to hear what some ppl have to feel about this.

A man's death is
> nothing to laugh at you morons, what if this was

if it's funny how he died, then yeah it is something to laugh at. I know when I die (Burke Center and Roberts Pkwy some day) as I'm bleeding to death in turn lane, I know I'll never see my kids again and that I'll be being made fun of on Fairfax Underground (best part is you guys wont even figure out it was me til later LoLz) and that's just the facts of life, Tootie :)

God knows

if he was going over 25 then it wasnt a mistake. He was speeding on purpose, recklessly by the sound of it. And because he lost his life doing such a worthless action then it kinda does make him a fool. I wouldnt necessarily go as far as to use the word "pathetic"............................but ANYBODY who drives that fast in a residential neighborhood is a FOOL! And to try and excuse your friend from that just because he died...................well I'm sorry but real life doesnt work that way. If he had killed somebody who had just parked his car in front his/her house after a long day at the job instead just killing himself, would that STILL be a "mistake" to you? Then words like "pathetic" would be just the tip of the iceburg. I'm not bringing that scenario up as a CouldShouldaWoulda - I'm just using it to point out that your friend could have CARED LESS if he had injured or killed someone by his driving on that street that night............which is why they call it RECKLESS Driving.

It's ridiculous to try to accept that maybe

he was on a public residential street in the middle of the night, NOWHERE NEAR HIS OWN HOUSE, and driving recklessly........................ Yeah, it's our business to talk about how what happens in Fairfax County. Read the top of yr screen:; Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication between residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.

And what yr boy did on Leesville Blvd most CERTAINLY qualifies as a topic of "interest"

Sorry you dont like how ppl feel about it. But it's the truth. And his memory will be tainted by his death by some ppl. You wont be able to change his actions, hun.

Fairfax County Police report a 24-year-old Woodbridge man died Tuesday at about 11:45 p.m. following a crash on Leesville Boulevard in the Springfield area.

Paul Wickwire was driving his 1998 Ford Explorer east on Leesville Boulevard near Hinton Street when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant and rolled over. The driver was ejected and died at the scene of the crash.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Preliminarily, they believe speed may have been a contributing factor.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
