A Fairfax County Police Officer was involved in the shooting of a wanted man in an apartment on Backlick Road late Saturday night.

A resident called police to the 5700 block of Backlick Road just after 11 p.m. Saturday reporting that a person wanted by police was hiding in a bedroom in an apartment.

According to an FCPD media release sent just before noon Sunday, “While searching the residence, patrol officers and a K9 team encountered the suspect, who threatened them with a sword and failed to comply with their commands. The officers fired both less-lethal bean bag rounds and lethal rounds, striking the suspect, who fell to the ground. Officers immediately rendered medical aid and performed CPR. The suspect was transported to the hospital and died a short time later.”

This was the second night police had dealt with this suspect. Friday night, the suspect gave officers false identification and escaped on foot after a brief chase. Friday night’s incident resulted in additional charges for the suspect.

Prior to Friday night, the suspect had seven warrants for his arrest outstanding, according to police. The warrants were for three felony counts for producing child pornography, another three for possessing or reproducing child pornography with an intent to distribute, and one misdemeanor warrant for consensual sexual intercourse with a minor.

The officer, who has not been identified, is on administrative leave — standard procedure following this type of event. Police will not release the suspect’s name until next-of-kin are notified.

Now I'm no police apologist, but the dude was swinging a sword around. When there's a cop right in front pointing a gun at you, you really oughta drop whatever weapon you're holding if you have a vested interest in not getting shot.

As I posted earlier "this obviously wasn't a 'sharp fellow'. Wield any weapon at a officer of the law, goodbye. Not my problem.

As for the stupid conspiracy theories, and the officer killed him for child porn, first get your head out from under your ass. All of the conspiracy bullshit, is made up by people whom have way too much free time, I highly doubt any of these folks could withstand 1/10th of the legal training or other thousands of hours each officer in the county has.

Are there dicks on the department? Sure. Yet, to put out stupid comments such as that, show a lack of brainpower. Anytime an officer is faced with a verified threat, such as a sword, and if youve been in the military or any other field, where knives and sharp objects are considered more deadly than a firearm, then you'll know why this officer/s did what they had to do. End of story.

As far as him being a perv, and a kiddie porn freak, I'm glad hes gone one way or the other. No children will ever be harmed by this piece of human refuse.

Ohhh, now I get it. Of course all the warrants against him were false, that's why he ran and challenged them to a swordfight because they were all trumped up charges.

UPDATE: Name of Deceased Released

The deceased has been identified as Gray Alan Combs, Jr., 22, of no fixed address.

Officer-Involved Shooting in the Springfield Area

Franconia Police District - Police are investigating an overnight officer-involved shooting that occurred inside an apartment in the 5700 block of Backlick Road. Officers were called to the apartment around 11:08 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, for the report of a wanted person who was hiding in a bedroom.

Officers were familiar with the suspect because they’d encountered him previously on Friday night. The suspect had seven outstanding warrants: Three felony counts of producing child pornography, three felony counts of possessing or reproducing child pornography with the intent to distribute and a misdemeanor warrant for consensual sexual intercourse with a minor. On Friday night the suspect allegedly gave officers false identification and escaped after a brief foot chase. As a result, two additional warrants were issued for resisting arrest and identity theft.

While searching the residence, patrol officers and a K9 team encountered the suspect, who threatened them with a sword and failed to comply with their commands. The officers fired both less-lethal bean bag rounds and lethal rounds, striking the suspect, who fell to the ground. Officers immediately rendered medical aid and performed CPR. The suspect was transported to the hospital and died a short time later.

This investigation is ongoing. One officer has been placed on routine administrative leave. The deceased’s name is not yet available for release pending notification of next of kin. All information provided in this release is based on preliminary investigation and may be subject to revision as the investigation continues.

Good lookin kid.

For women or men, I'd say.

Why child porn?

Probably fiddled with when he was a kid.

Anyone who pulls a sword on cops has some serious issues.

Still, something tragic there...

The house that Gray Allen Combs went to was sublet; a family rented a room from the people on the lease. There were more than two families living in the apartment.

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/code/property/overcrowding.htm

How many people can live in a house?
The zoning ordinance (Article 2, Part 5) limits how many people can live in a single residence. In general:

•No more than one family, plus two renters, may live in one house.
•Or, no more than four unrelated people may live in one house.
However, the rules define that more than one person can live in a residence:

1. One family, which may consist of one person or two or more persons related by blood or marriage with any number of natural children, foster children, step children or adopted children and with not to exceed two roomers or boarders.

2. Two single parents or guardians with not more than a total of six of their dependent children, including natural children, foster children, step children or adopted children, functioning as a single housekeeping unit.

3. A group of not more than four persons not necessarily related by blood or marriage functioning as a single housekeeping unit.

5. Any group housekeeping unit which may consist of not more than 10 persons as may be approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals.

6. One person or two persons one of whom shall be elderly and/or disabled, and one or both of whom own the dwelling unit, plus one family, which may consist of one person or two or more persons related by blood or marriage, and with any number of natural children, foster children, step children or adopted children.

That cop should be fired and put in jail. R.I.P Gray Alan Combs. Im so bummed I didn't get to see you again): You will be missed <3

sorry gisell, but he had CHILD PORN. No to mention a huge criminal history. He was stupid enough to pull a sword on the cops, and he got what he had coming to him. the cops should be fired? for what? doing their job when a dirtbag threatend their lives. atleast they tried to stop him without shooting him first, or did you not read they shot him with beanbag rounds that didnt work. Maybe you should have informed him you dont bring a sword to a gun fight. Or was that a knife, either way, he lost big time. To bad he didnt go to jail instead, since prison folk love pedifiles. Thats probably why he decided to force the cops hand. Maybe he was not in his right mind after smoking up some meth. Guesss you will never know.

How are you so sure there was child porn? His own girlfriend said there was none. And not to mention, the sword he used was not real. The residents that lived in the apartment were asked about that sword, and they said it was not a real sword. What you don't know is, the cops had a k9 team with them, and they released a dog. Out of fear, Gray decided to grab the sword to try and defend himself. (who wouldn't) The cop should be put in jail because he shot Gray TEN TIMES.He shouldn't have been so exaggerated. only one or two lethal shots would have done, but not TEN. He would have still been alive. In the hospital, but alive. I'm sure they could have talked Gray out of having the sword in his hands. You're not supposed to kill your suspects, but interrogate them first. He didn't kill anyone. He was not supposed to die like this. There are SO many assassins everywhere who have killed, and what? they don't get killed like Gray did. They treated him like an animal.

He was not supposed to die like this!?!!? HE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO LIVE LIKE THAT, MOTHER FUCKER!!!!

well, if his own girlfriend said he's innocent then it must be true, right? And the cops of COURSE should have known that someone attacking them with a sword was holding one that was not real! Most ppl just follow the stupid commands the cops are shouting when......................wait a minute? What the fuck am I talking about? MOST PEOPLE ARE NORMAL FUCKS DONT GET INVOLVED IN A PEDO-PORN INVESTIGATION!! SHIT!!!!!

And who the fuck are these assassins that are everywhere? Call the cops and tell them about them if you know about shit like that, jackass.........

p.s. My favorite part is when Gisel says that they should have only fired 2 LETHAL shots would have mean he'd still be alive.......................CLASSIC!!!!

Uh, Excuse you. The reason why I say that he would have lived if two shots were fired at him, is because he lived after ten were shot at him. Think about it; they still had to wait until an ambulance arrived, and the drive to the hospital. I presume he was still alive since it was stated that he died a short time later after being taken to the hospital. And about the assassins, I'm just speaking in general, dipshit.

Police Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting of Wanted Man
A man wanted on multiple child pornography charges was shot in a Springfield apartment.

gisel, you really should READ the article before you open your stupid mouth. it says he was WANTED for child porn charges.....mmmmmmmmm. wonder what that means. by the way, doesnt matter whether it was real or not. if it was a pellet gun would that matter if he was shot then? if it looked real its a threat. by the way, a deadly weapon can be a bat, stick, metal pole. sorry for your loss, but your friend was an idiot for not obeying the cops commands. he got lucky and evaded them a day or two prior, and his luck ran out and he made some bad decisions. maybe you should ask your friend if he attacked the k9 dog....oh thats right, you cant. if he did, they can use deadly force because a dog is considered a just the same as a cop. you seem to know alot about something that you werent there for. maybe you should have written the democratic version of this article because you apparently know everything. you should probably stop posting about this since you keep outting your foot in your own mouth. most people have no sympathy for pedofiles. next thing you know, he would have been molesting children if he wasnt already.

Gisel sounds like you miss him alot. Tell you what...Why don't you join him? It's not like you contribute anything to humanity anyway. That would mean two more open spots on the highway during rush hour.
