FCPD _ Sticker Check at Merrifield

I just drove to the Merrifield Post Office to drop off my extension form. I thought I was being swift by using the side access road around the movie theater area. But low and behold right at the postal employees entrance there are orange cones and police barricades forcing me to make a right or left on 29.

I made a left to go 150 feet and turn into the post office when I saw all the orange cones blocking the left turn and cops all over the place. "OMG, a terrorist situation" I thought.

At the left turn point I saw people on the right hand side of the road collecting mail - but no way for me to get over a lane. Thnaks for the warning!

So I go down past the gas station to the light and wait 3-4 cycles before I can make a U-turn. I make the turn and head back towards the post office. Rt 29 is at a crawl both directions.

I make my right turn into the post office and am directed to make an immediate left where 10 post office employees with buckets are there to collect the mail from the 3 cars that are there. Myself and the other two cars all drop our mail in the same bucket as the other 9 employees are gabbing.

I tell the employee that there 150 cars lined up near the employees entrance and they will have to go all the around. "Send a bucket up there" I asked. He laughed.

Slowly I proceed out amongst the cones and flashing lights when I notice just before the exit are 4 of the FCPD's finest checking my car - specifically my sticker.

I slowly make my way on Rt 29 towards Gallows which is still crawling. I get near the light where Home Depot is and where the road has the big median. I see two FCPD motorcycle cops in the median with two cars pulled over and neither of the two cars has stickers. The cops are writing tickets.

I was pissed because

1) it took me 1/2 hour to go a few blocks because of all the orange cones.
2) No signs were placed where I could see them alerting me to alternative mail drop off areas
3) Cops starring at the cars looking at stickers just slowed down traffic
4) Motorcycle cops pulling people over in the middle of the road did not help either.
5) only one of three entrances to the post office was accessible and barely accessible.

I am sure I will get lambasted for this post, so let me say I think they were looking for window tint violations also. That will get FXU people riled up as I am.

A close friend of mine had that happen to him, at the Merrifield post office, on April 15th: like 8-9 years ago!! I specifically remember how pissed he was that they were sitting there doing that, lol.

That must be a regular thing they do there on tax day...funny you bring this up...

Bummer you got snagged.

It's double tax day for those driving with invalid stickers.

If you had filed a week ago, you wouldn't have to wait at all. But then it would have made you look for something else to complain about.

Guess it's not your fault, the post office's fault, rush hours fault, or the other late filers like yourself, do yourself a favor and use turbotax or another software, just quit blaming other's for your wait. If their shit was expired too bad, life goes on....lessons learned, file early, keep your car in order, and don't buy alcohol for teenagers....

I owed money and filed a month ago. It just pissed me off to see the taxes I owed laying around to remind me of how screwed a middle class person is in this country.

Rush hour was ok, it was those damn orange cones that caused the backup.

Other late filers? I said there were only 3 cars dropping off when I dropped off.

My car was not snagged, everything was legal I just got starred at by the cops.

And I will let Gravis buy the alcohol for the teenagers.

To answer your question, Adam, if you have certain deductions and/or make over a determined amount of money, the IRS requires that you file on paper (using Turbo Tax or not) and send it in the mail (or other approved carrier). I guess you and RickyBobby are not in my tax bracket.

In case you didn't know it, on TAX DAY, APril 15th every year the post office and the police work together to allow drivers to just drop off their tax returns from their cars, so they don't have to drive into the post office to get it mailed.

I didn't drive thru that area, so I may be wrong, but usually they have the big flashing signs telling people to drop off on the side of the road. This keeps traffic from trying to make left turns constantly. They do it at most of the larger post offices and even many of the smaller ones.

Then again, maybe they knew you were coming and wanted to make things difficult for you.

LOL! well i have to agree with everyone else, it's your own damn fault for waiting until the last second, not to submit your tax forms but to get an extension!

cops dont take nicely to window tint violations
