I think most people would agree that the poorest in the county live along Route 1/Richmond Highway. SOME sections of Lorton seem trashy, but I don't know if you'd call it "poor." Older parts of Springfield aren't so great anymore either. It's hard to name many poor places b/c Fairfax County is an expensive place to live.

Annandale?

Chantilly in parts is rather poor.

Alexandria sucks but it never fails to amuze me is that there is a gated $3000 a month apartments on one side of the street and then you can literally walk across the street and you will end up looking at some crummy $1000 apartments

Anything that is east of I-95 AND south of the beltway is pretty nasty.

Before they tore it down, the neighborhood behind the Centreville library was disgusting. Also, parts of Londown Towne (also in Centreville) are rather nasty

Just like any county in the U.S., there are pockets of poorer areas. Fairfax circle, much of Annandale, a stretch of Chantilly, lots of Reston and Herndon, the apartments along Cedar Lane in Vienna, and a lot of Falls Church. If you're looking to avoid crime, stick to Vienna, Oakton, Oak Hill, or Fairfax Station.

Never understood why Rt1 sucks so much given it's proximity to the Potomac River. I almost bought in Mason Neck on the water 7 yrs ago but would have had to drive to rt1 for shopping and that killed the deal.
