Given the controversy over redistricting, right or wrong, can we conclude that the region is somewhat elitist? Along with that elitism is a kind of very self rightious avowed lip service against racism. And so we see photos in our newspapers of all white boads, but with maybe one upper middle class black. Often giving themselves awards of one sort or another. There is no large of minorities. Democracy is a fragile thing it seems. What are we to make of all of this? Is there anywhere to go if you are not a part of this larger power block?-Albanians for Freedom in Fairfax County!

If there's one thing that FairfaxUnderground has opened my eyes to, it is the level of ignorant racist people that live around here. I never really come across it in daily life, I guess that's because of the crowd I hang out with, but I just remember being pretty shocked by some of the comments made here when I first logged in.

It's not as bad as other areas I've lived in, but it sure seems to be alive and ugly as ever.

this area is more a hotbed of racial tension because, much like NYC there are a lot of differant races and ethnicities mixing together on a daily basis. Thus people bitch about, "middle easterners being cheap" or "white people being snooty" or "black people being LOUD" or "asians being cheap" or anyone not speaking english "talking about ME".

Factually, most of the crime reported in the Fairfax police report is done by minorities. It seems to me that the newspapers make a concerted effort to note achievements and positive activities of minority citizens. While demographics are rapidly changing, the majority Caucasian population gets a good share of column inches based upon this group's achievements, simply because of representation. If you believe Albania is a more perfect society, by all means go there.

and yet more caucasians are in the criminal police DB. now per capita is a different story. plenty of white people commit crimes. i data mined the online DB for the sole purpose of seeing the stats, one of them being race. oh, and for the record, it's always the white soccer moms who are the worst drivers on my commute.

I wholeheartedly agree that the race of soccer moms is the most elitist and obnoxious drivers in the county. Usually gabbing on their cell phones, they are totally oblivious to their surroundings as they race to their kids' next events with total abandon as they cut-off other drivers, run the yellow/red lights, and speed.
