Apparently it takes 12 bug bombs and a spark from a refrigerator...

Now we know.

The real question is... How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop???

The question REALLY is:

"A =spark= from a fridge got through metal cans to the contents!!?"

Okay, seriously, good question. It doesn't make much sense.

I have the feeling this explanation may backfire or at the very least ignite some controversy.

How many times must a cannon ball fly, before they're forever banned?

Yeah, the article isn't clear on this. Were the cans unused and just sitting too close to the compressor or an electrical outlet, or did someone use 12 cans of bug bomb and forget to shut off their appliances?

Yeah, it DOES say "12 cans" so that could be a case of cans, I suppose (3x4). If in a cardboard box then maybe THAT caught fire, the injury was caused trying to put it out (after maybe a can had already popped), then the rest blew causing the rather massive explosion:

>>> "...The explosion severed several floor joists, pushed out a room wall
>>> and caused damage to an adjoining townhouse..."

You guys have got to be trolling, that or just really stupid. Obviously the home was being fumigated. A single spark in a refrigerator is not going to detonate 12 cans of anything. The contents of the cans would have needed to have the correct mixture of aerosol and oxygen to detonate from a spark.

Many older homes have pilot lights for hot water heaters, gas fireplace inserts, even older stoves & ovens. If you set off a dozen cans of bug fumigation spray in a small home you have a big risk for an explosion.

I'd recommend never setting off more than one can of spray per # of levels/floors in your home.

The townhome/apartment building is really gross. It must be teeming with roaches. I knew a friend who looked a renting one of them.

This material was already covered on the show MythBusters. No point in repeating the experiment, unless it's for the insurance money.

Well the roaches are dead at least. From the photo of the houses , its looks like a Catepiller bulldozer taking out the whole complex might be better.
