Anybody make the trek out to Bender Arena over at AU to see Gonzaga beat O'Connell in the WCAC championship game. Gonzaga was ranked #9 in the nation and in front of 6,000 + with standing room only they proved that they are the team to beat in this city. We will see if they live up to the hype when they take on Roosevelt in the DC City Championships next Tuesday at 7:30 at the Verizon Center.

Who cares, the Northern Region is better.

It goes unnoticed, cause less kids dunk, fundamental wise its even. Why do you think the WCAC never schedules northern region teams? They know it will diminish their beast reputation. Come to the Patriot Center to see real basketball on Friday, although 2 of the top 3 teams have been eliminated in my opinion.

Sorry, Ed, in case you missed it, O'Connell beat Wakefield 59-49 on December 1st and then spanked Woodson 71-52 on December 4th. I believe both of those teams play in your precious northern region. And, didn't Woodson win the AAA Liberty? So, not only do they schedule northern region teams, they beat them. Any other bright insights?

Well did they play TC Williams, no one would beat them now.

Isn't gonzaga that gay prep school in DC?

Thats like saying why dont the Nationals play howard's baseball team. You play teams that are of your skill level. The Northern Region isnt nearly as good as the WCAC

Well O'Connel only beating Wakefield by 10 is an indication its pretty close. Wakefield is not even a top team this year, and after seeing TC Williams again tonight, they can roll with any team in the WCAC. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Northern Region is better, but they could definitlly compete, and comparing MLB to college baseball is not a accurate comparison.

Oh man, Gonzaga demolished Teddy Roosevelt by 30 for a City Title Win. Congrats

Gonzaga (all boys) may have a better basket ball team (they recruit) but pales in comparison in academics. I have several son's, one whom attended Gonzaga but transferred to O'connell, all the rest were Knights. O'connell has a much more spiritual atmosphere and my kid said "Gonzaga was for rich kids who like to party"

Look, I am not a huge Gonzaga fan, but to say that O'Connell is better academically is a joke. O'Connell looks like it is stuck in the 70's and the academics just aren't at Gonzaga's level. And it appears that you think Gonzaga recruits and O'Connell doesn't. I won't go into details, but it is well-known among those involved in high school bball that O'Connell has some of the most ruthless and law-bending recruiting in the WCAC. Ask some members of the O"connell team from last year what they think of "Coach's" recruiting practices. Please man, get some info

I spoke with Dave N's dad just last weekend he mentioned how he and Mr. G and their wives enjoyed reminiscing, during the Maryland vs North Carolina game about the terrific program that coach Wooton has developed at O'Connell and how well the school prepared them academically and how the boys still have the highest regard for their old coach. Don't judge a school by it's looks. Instead concentrate more on what goes on in the school and not the gym. O'Connell is about to have it's 33rd Super dance to benefit Cystic-Fibrosis and donate even more to the THREE MILLION DOLLARS they have already have raised. It is my belief as a parent that O'Connell not stuck in the seventies and their coed system works better than the all boys system. All boys schools are great for sports but is lacking in character development.

I had no idea a dance provided some sort of intrinsic worth to a school. And Gonzaga, DeMatha, and St. John's are generally considered the best WCAC schools. Why don't you and some Paul VI parents go talk about some good times in the second tier.
