I want to go camping for about 4 days next week. It needs to be within 3 hours driving time to Fairfax.

Best recommendations for a few days of peace and quiet?

Was just there yesterday. Bring a ziplock bag to poop in.

Need to know what kind of camping, RV or tent.
I like this place to camp in my popup but they have rustic sites also.

Very few other campers to bother you this time of year.
They also have a rail caboose turned into a cottage you can rent there if you want to stay warm.

Tent camping. Somewhere open from the 17th for a few days.

Shenandoah is closed.... :(

I've been wondering this too. When I lived in Blacksburg, we used to drive into the Jefferson National Forest and pull off the road and walk 50 yards into the woods and camp. Where is the closest place to here to do that? Shenandoah?

You can legally camp off any fire road that is open. A good portion of the Appalachian trail is open this time of year. You will need a good 4wd truck and a gun.

You can go camping with the homeless people who have tents over by Chipotle and Potbelly's in Reston (off of Sunset Hills Road).

Unless you are in a protected park , just remember it is also hunting season! Wear your orange!

On that note, Check out the southern end of the Shenandoah nation park, the Rapidan area of the GW nat. Forest near Old Rag... Its real nice out there and less populated.

There is a decent place in Reston right off Sunset Hills Road, across the street from Chick-fil-A.

Best of all, it's free!

Why do you want to go camping in December? Are you just looking for a nice quiet place to go cook meth?
