I was in there today and a good 1/4 of the stores are closed up/covered up. You would think springfield mall would at least drop their rates to promote business. That place is desolate and totally worthless. Same thing will happen if tyson's gets metro.

I used to go to springfield mall a lot back in the 80's, and I wish to testify that it was a shithole long before metro was put in.

I agree the move theater they have in there is one of the worst I've ever been in.

While I do agree the mall went grossly downhill with the opening of the Metro, I also think the building of Kingstowne has hurt the mall as well.

Back in the 70s and 80s, the mall was a dump. A lot of money was sunk into the mall and in the mid-80s it was actually quite nice.

By the mid 90s, as Kingstowne stole away all the good retailers, it was left as a junk hole. Compounding that, is the easy access from metro.

I doubt anyone could prove this theory wrong as it is the sad reality.

...I still remember calling the first girl that had a thing for me, from a payphone down by the Roy Rogers on the lower level. I think it is a taco stand now...

i moved to belvoir in '98 when i was eight years old. I guess i never noticed it then and it seemed pretty decent, but now that i've moved to burke, i realize what a shithole i used to live in. route one is a dump, springfield is a dump, belvoir was turning into a dump when i left.

at least now i can go to FFX corner.

its about as shitty as Landmark mall.

Tear down springfield mall, and add another level to tysons.

The proposal is a major renovation, with addition of a level or two and a highrise office building. Probably to generate bigger day crowd.
