Has anyone been to the new location of the Fairfax City library. Has the parking garage helped?

I parked on the street, so I don't know about the garage, but the library seemed very open and noisy. The "Virginia Room" which was always quiet and a good place to read or study in the old library, is just the wide-open second floor filled with kids running around.

The shelving seems low and is angled to make little use of the floor space. You can't get yourself lost in the stacks. The new Montgomery County central library in Rockville is the same way, so I guess that's the new style for libraries. There seem to be more space given over to banks of internet PCs.

The old library needed to go, but this new building seems like less of a place for books and more of a place for updating your Myspace profile.

In your mind. There is no new library. Its only a plot to lure you
to the Firehouse.

Neen,
It's right on the corner of North Street when you pass the new construction in Fairfax City. It looks really nice inside. Last night as I was driving home from Mass I could still see people inside and it looked really nice. This weekend was the grand opening so that's why it may seemed more noisy and festive than a real library.

Do people even go to libraries anymore? Kids do most of their research online and rarely read books for pleasure.
Is there wi-fi at the new place?

the old place smelled of must and dust but we would take my 3 year old half brother there and read him books from the kids corner. Does the new place have a rumpus reading room for kids?

They're building another new library in Burke at Fred's Oak and the Parkway.

Boy. there would be a great place for budget cuts....close 'em all. If you wanna read a book, go buy it!

That is situated on one of the last chunks of farmland that was around in Burke - and now gone.

Anyone remember the old Burke Centre library, before it burned down?

Where was the old library located? I seem to remember right after I moved here in '93 that there was a small branch located in one of the centers along Burke Centre Parkway. Can't remember if it is where the Safeway is or down by the old Hechingers.
