In Fairfax City Joes Pizza and Pasta closed many years back now probably at least 5 or more. It was once a Ponderosa Steak House. What is pityfull is that after Joes Closed it has been sitting. How the hell do these owners ever get ahead when they throw out a paying business to try to jam more money out of sombody else. F! em Let that landload eat shit instead of making any income and F his tax write offs . Thats what the underlying problem is.

Are you sure that they are closed or is it possible that the power was out from the ice storm?

Ruby Tuesday's still lists the Fairfax Circle location as active and last week I saw activity at the carvel/Mexican restaurant. I don't pay attention to Cho's but I'm a bit surprised on the others. The Mexican restaurant has another location in downtown Springfield if someone liked their food.

For as much as Tippy's Tacos get bashed, it has been around a long time! I would rather eat at Tippys for my fancy nights out than to ever eat at that horrid restaurant that closed next to Carvel. The "cooks" made all of their meals by opening cans of Campbells, Kraft, and off brand beans, dumping into a bowl, and microwaving. It was the worst dining experience I have ever had. It is crazy that they have a second restaurant in Springfield. It must be for people who call Olive Garden a real Eye-talian meal.

El Paso is a chain and not very good. I wrote to Carvel and they said it was the franchisee's decision although the building is from 1950 and for sale as per the city website.

I didn't think the food was anything special at the very colorfully decorated Mexican restaurant but the service was extremely friendly almost over the top. It got busy at dinner time.

Hey Route 1, are you old enough to remember that the lot that Checkers sits on was originally home to a sit down Pizza Hut? I'm surprised that Checkers lasted as long as it did. All of their other locations used a red color scheme but only this one used green. I guess it can be dug up and wheeled away to another location.

Pizza Hut pizza definitely tasted better back then and had a different cheese!(well i think so at least) Better maybe because they served it in the pans at the table...not sure, but the carry out sucks now a days!

The Ruby Tuesday at 9444 Arlington Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22031 should close. The service is HORRIBLE. And for some reason, management refuses to fire the chinese hostess who speaks very little English. It's a battle to be seated at a table that I request. I always ask for a table with a chair--not a booth. The idiot hostess doesn't understand this very simple request. This happens every time. Also, the waitstaff is trained in the art of vanishing. They are nowhere to be found except when they take your order (after a 15 minute wait), deliver your food, deliver the check, take your payment, and return the receipt. You are on your own if you need anything during the time that you are eating. Shut this hole down.

Looks like the furniture store near there was going out of business a few month's ago too. That whole area should be re-done.

Does anybody have any insight/guesses/speculation as to what could be there next? We know it won't be a Tex-Mex place as that market is saturated now. I doubt it'll be a TGIF/Applebee's type restaurant either since, well we see that nobody wants them anymore.

The one in Herndon still seems to do pretty decent business, but they have stopped carrying/stocking their dry coppa, so I don't go there anymore.

The one at Jermantown was my first introduction to good (or better) Italian subs back in 2003, so it may have been around a bit longer than 30 years.

The new Lowe's should help the new tenant when it arrives. There is also a need for some serious cosmetic improvements to the store fronts. The Indian place is pretty good (for being vegetarian only) but Dairy Queen? And some (insert forgettable ethnic Halal and Korean place names)? Then you have the Boston Market in the middle of the parking lot which would be awesome if it were 1994. Time to make some serious upgrades.

Stopped there today, same menu, same great food. Apparently the landlords raised the owners rent 3% every year for 37 years without offering improvements.

Interesting ... apparently Epicure also had issues with the same landlord.

I have several small retail locations and Dwoskin is the worst landlord. No actual management. They sign leases for businesses they know will fail and then do it again. That center should be attracting top level retailers especially now that Chuys is open. Instead, it's the same piss poor mix of stores.

So, do they also manage that shitty little strip of a mall where Dickie's is? That storefront has been at least 5 different things.

A few points:

1. You think Epicure paid their rent and did what they were supposed to do? Oh, no. Fairfax County SHUT THEM DOWN because they didn't get the right permits for their operation. Dwoskin let them try again; they bleeped it up again.

2. Yeah, Chuy's is in Fairfax Centre, in the old Chili's space. Boy, who put them there? Oh, yeah, the guys who you assclowns say are the worst landlords. Chuy's has been open for two weeks, losers.

3. If you think the Deli's rent went up 3% a year for 37 years, you have NO idea what you're talking about.

4. The strip in front of Wal-Mart? Could be leased ten times over. Radio Shack will eventually bite the dust, and someone else will go NUTS to go in next to Wal-Mart.

It's great that you morons think you know more about commercial real estate than the company that has made umpteen millions doing this for forty years.

Good riddance, TBH

In other news;

Sheba(Ethiopian restaurant @ Pickett Rd/Fair City Mall in Fairfax)is now called Saba Traditional Yemeni Cuisine. I heard they relocated closeby to the original spot.

Shocking that Blue Ocean Japanese in Fair City is alive & kicking. Blue Ocean fell off years ago & managed to backslide even further since. That ship has sailed. BOOM!

There is a new "BBQ21 Coming Soon" sign where the Olle Restaurant (Korean) used to be in the Fairfax Court shopping plaza (where X-Sport and Burlington Crap Factory is located). I had never been to Olle so can't say I miss that place but I've also never heard of this new restaurant. So I'm not sure if it would be an upgrade or new addition. There is also zero information on this establishment available online.

RE: Outback

I had heard rumors they were in trouble after their GM moved to the one in Arlington. Not the best food, but I had some good memories from there.

Looks like J.J's on Huntington Ave next to the 7-11 has bit the dust, A car ran thru the front glass in June, The glass has been fixed but there still closed.Nothing happining, the Lim's may be selling the place and retired. They had cheap breakfast and great old style fried fish sandwichs, two pieces of white bread fried whiting tarter and hot sauce. Plus wings and Mumbo sauce. The Lims operated the place since 1985.
