Centreville dominated late 90s into early 00 in my opinion. Ran the single wing and had a nasty defense

Thats because Northern Virginia is of some of the best H.S. football on the east coast Alpha Male. Centreville is ranked #1 in the state and #54 in the nation....I believe Chantilly, Westfield, and Oakton are also ranked in the top 10 in the state. Great High School football, why shouldnt it be discussed? :)

Reality, class2003 said best H.S. football on the "east coast".

Yeah, compared to other places in the United States Northern Virginia's football programs may not be that great, we all know that, but he/she's comparing it to the rest of the east coast.

Some great ones mentioned already.

Others not mentioned from 80's on:

All Time Best since mid-80's IMO- RB Chris Warren (Robinson)

Other Greats from the past: Eric Dorsey DL (McLean), Bhawho Jue DB (Chantilly), Willie Pile (west Potomac), Keith Lyle DB (Marshall), Nic Sorenson DB (Marshall), Michael McCary DL (Marshall), Hildbold P (Robinson), Brandon Royster RB (Fairfax), Mike Daniels DB (Fairfax), Blake and Bret Warren S/LB (Centreville)

Other Greats more recent: Will Montgomery OL (Centreville), Bowden P (Westfield), Caperelli RB (Robinson), Dudzik QB (Centreville), Czajkowski K (West Springfield), Lalich QB (West Springfield), AJ Price WR (South Lakes), Brian Kennedy RB/LB (Westfield), Pace RB (Chantilly), Jack Taylor LB (Oakton), Stephon Robertson LB (Edison)

Eric Barton (Edison) and Maurice Daniels (Annandale) were also dominant at LB.

We have to be missing a bunch of TC Williams Titans from the 80's. Those teams were scary good. Ratcliff Thomas, Ledbetter??

If considering Private- RB Eric Metcalf in the mid-80's deserves consideration

Big Sean Glennon fan, but I think brother Mike and Bryn Renner (West Springfield) were better.

Great call on John Kinzer at TE -- I think he would have played in the NFL had it not been for his injury.

From the '80's would include Andy Heck (Woodson, tackle) Mark Harmon (Mt. Vernon, PK) Ed Cunningham (Mt Vernon O line) Scott Secules (Chantilly QB) definitely would say Chris Warren from Robinson is one of all-time greats from all of Va...as a matter of fact, Sports Illustrated did a list of the top 4 or 5 athletes of all time from each state and he was one of them.

Eric Metcalf if private (O'Connell) is included.

For the 00's team, what about Ahmad Brooks? From Woodbridge, Parade All American (I think defensive player of the year).

Boone's GF gave birth to his child his senior year. He had offers to several big schools, but decided to stay local for his child. He ended up with a brief stint at Maryland (same year LaMont Jordan entered Maryland). Damone redshirted his freshman year, but lost it by playing in one play. His second season, he was a medical redshirt and quit following that. 4 years later he ended up playing for Carson-Newman Division II.

Anyone remember D'Arcy Wills from LB? All region player of the year in 95? Prob the toughest qb in the last 20 years. Rocket arm and could make any throw. This was also before the spread offense so theres no doubt that if he was playing now, he wouldve played at a big-time school.

Great lists and what they really prove is how hard it is to go from big time local HS player to a well known pro down the line.

Take that talent and definitely get a degree. NFL is probably not going to happen.

It is very true. The best teams in Virginia would get absolutely crushed by very mediocre teams in most states. Every school down south, New York schools, Midwest schools, and West Coast schools with very medicore talent who finish at the bottom of their leagues would crush teams here in NOVA. I think the biggest discrepency is coaching. A guy named Renner runs a 5 wide and basically becomes rich here selling his playook to all of these other 'donkey' coaches here in NOVA. Renner cant even win in North Carolina....what does that tell you?

I am so fucking sick and tired of hearing about how much better other states High School football is than Virginia. I am sure there are a few areas Florida, parts of Texas, parts of Ohio, parts of Cali where they truly play great ball, BUT all in all Virginia puts out awesome talent that is recruited across the Country. Take the last 5 years, kids from Virginia were the either the top high school recruit in the country or the top kid at his position. Hand this year is the top kid in the country, Allen from SB is playing as a true Freshman at Alabama, Brown from Smith at the Beach is number 1 DT in the country. Alex Carter went to Stanford and started as a Freshman. So not only are these kids highly recruited once they get there they are playing early. Look at the ACC nearly every QB came from VA, Boyd at Clemson, Thomas at VT, Renner at UNC, First QB taken in NFL draft from last years draft Manuel from Florida State, Watford at UVA, etc. etc.

This is a reach, but does anyone know what happened to Robbie Banks, JEB Stuart High class of '85?

Best punter I've ever seen, was all-met.

I've covered sports (high school, college, pro) for 35 years, and was a scout at one time, and he was the best, I thought pro potential.

Had kids that went to Stuart so went to their games, and was incredibly impressed by his leg, with 50 + yard punts no problem, 1st team Wash Post all-met.

Never heard of him playing any college ball though. Did he?

Peter Lalich was legit, both from a physical standpoint-he had a true rifle for an arm-NFL strength, Jeff George kinda stuff, and was 6-4, 6-5 maybe.

Not real fast, but for his style, didn't need to be.

Also, according to several of his coaches he spent time with in college, he had an incredible mind for the game.

Wasn't it off the field, though, where he seemed to have maybe a few issues? Too bad if that was the case, hate to see that kind of talent not make it and be tested at the NFL level.
