Probably shouldn't be that funny, but I agree. Curious as to why a vet is checking out the survivors. If they're injured, wouldn't you just put em out of their misery?

You would think! I think that is the sentence that made it funny for me.

"Four surviving chickens that were found were being checked out by a vet."

It's a damn chicken. That was being raised to be eaten.

That's precisely why they were being checked out. Food quality assurance.

FAIRFAX, Va. - Authorities in Fairfax County are investigating what may have killed 32 chickens on a small farm and looking for another 46 missing chickens.

Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell says animal control officers were called Thursday morning by a neighbor who saw the dead chickens in the Winfield Road area. Caldwell says animal control officers are investigating the possibility that dogs attacked and killed the chickens.

Caldwell says one of two coops of chickens had been broken into. Four surviving chickens that were found were being checked out by a vet.

The chickens are so-called "broilers" and reddish in color. They were being raised to be sold and eaten. Police are asking anyone who sees a chicken in the area to call animal control.

First, I call bullshit because all the close-up pics of the chicken area had all live chickens, and I count more than four "survivors".

Second, they need to check all the dead chickens for Mr. Misery's DNA from semen.

@themoreyouknow- u are correct. there were 5 live chickens at the scene when officers arrived. They ate one. now there are 4 survivors.

I got this email alert from the Police yesterday, of course, the person who put teh message up included the three photos (at full resolution of 2MB, 3MB and 2MB) so it clogged my email system up.

I am not sure what they want the citizens to do about this. It looks like an animal attack and if you have chickens (in Fairfax County?) you should be on alert? I am not sure what to make of this. I went to McDonalds yesterday and they served up dozens of chicken parts but there isn't a email going out about that.

Is there something I am missing here? Why should the Police prepare a Press Release on an incident like this? Seemed like a huge waste of money and time to me.

There is something very strange about this. I've had experience
with coyote's and foxes killing chickens and their usual method
is to take one at a time. They don't just kill them and leave
them.

The top photo shows an unidentified police officer and five chickens. So did five or only four survive?

And really, 32 dead and another 46 that are missing. That's 78 chickens in that small coop. I think it was a revolt at the conditions they had to live in - look at that tiny shelter, 78 chickens couldn't fit in there. Indeed, fishy.

I'd guess it was the neighbors.

78 chickens is plenty enough to stink to high hell. Aren't there regulations to prevent this kind of chicken hoarding?

2 acre Min.

The number of domestic fowl kept on a given lot shall not exceed the ratio of one (1) bird unit per one (1) acre, with a bird unit identified as follows:

32 chickens = 1 bird unit
16 ducks = 1 bird unit
8 turkeys = 1 bird unit
8 geese = 1 bird unit

In determining the number of domestic fowl permitted, only fowl six (6) months or older in age shall be counted.
