There are a number of Tech students who go every year. Join pre-law and work hard and you might swing it.

You can major ar pre-law at VT? That's retarded. If you are already relegated to going to tech, major in a scientific or engineering field then go to law school. That route has 2 advantages. First, if you drop/fail out of law school, you will have a real major to fall back on. Second, you will be eligible for the patent bar and that will greatly expand your marketability as an attorney.

why are you asking strangers which college you should attend? you should be visiting the schools and talking with your parents and counselors. please don't rely on the people from the underground to give you any serious advice.

In my opinion All the schools listed are fine academic institutes and people will earn a great education at each. People who want a small school atmosphere would LOVE mary washington!

Hi i have been reading all of this and I wanted some feedback. I'm from the west coast but I applied and got accepted to James Madison University, University of Mary Washington, George Mason University, Penn State, and American University. I'm planning to major in Political Science. What would be the best choice?

Obviously responding to an old-ass post, but I laugh my ass off when I see people equate an undergraduate degree (where and what) with earning potential.

Where is important. Ask Wall-Streeters.

What you major in...important and not. A buddy of mine majored in anthropology and became a Marine Fighter Pilot and now flies for FedEx. Another buddy majored in communications and has probably made north of $300,000 for the past 10 years as a sales manager for a staffing agency.

Yep, I had those buddies that took the "safe route"...accounting, engineering, etc...the real hard stuff that "guaranteed" a job out of college. Sure enough, they were the ones that got off to hot starts, making like $60K when the rest of us were scraping around making half, but it has been my experience after 20 years that those guys tap out early.

Hell, we had a female friend that became a doctor. Guarantee to tons of dough, right? After 20 years, she is barely through her college/post college debt. And works her ASS off. And, really, less money than some of the others.

My theory is we HAD to hustle in our 20's...they didn't. Plus, they like safety. F-ups are prone to (probably had to) take risks.

In general, many of the f-ups that I knew in college are doing better than those straight-laced science guys.

Those accountants, engineers, etc are generally costs to an organization, while the guys that had to go out and hustle and sell represent revenue to an organization. Guess who's more important?

I know it is cliche, but it is the truth.

Guess what? Without those engineers, you would have nothing to sell. I would hardly call those guys "costs" to an organization. We joke about geeks and nerds, but we need those guys. Geeks like Bill Gates (and many less famous) have done okay. Also, some science guys are not as straight laced as you might think. Science is full of risks (do you know any real scientists?---I don't mean engineers). Some of them are very much risk takers. Many have gone on to found their own companies (not just sell stuff for somebody else).

Didn't say we don't need those engineers, etc. and I agree that they are very valuable.

Just said that in some respects, the liberal arts people did, in the long run, as well as, or better than the people who majored in sciences and accounting, contrary to the opinion that liberal arts means a lifetime of nothing.

I used the little thing about being costs to an organization as a reason why, in some instances.

Didn't mean to get anyone upset.

Yes, we need engineers and accountants, etc. and they are good and smart people, and in some (many?) instances risk takers.

Mary Wash: beautiful campus, women are not especially hot but there are a few gems. Mason is probably the best for good looking girls. UMW has been having difficulty filling their freshman classes the last few years. A lot of people (including myself) trace the problems back to the name change in 2005 from Mary Washington College to University of Mary Washington. THey changed the name because the female alumni complain that is sucked going to school there because there were no men. The administration found some study that said schools that start with "University" in the name attract more males. I'm not kidding, that's why they the school is named University of Mary Washington and not Mary Washington University. Apparently it may be the only "University Of..." that is a person and not a geographic region. Anyway, like I said it has a beautiful campus and it's close to DC. There are no frats but the womens rugby team throws the big parties. I remember one where like 15 women were making out with each other. But I digress. If you're a normal guy and decent looking, there is no shortage of women there. Academically I believe you wil get a good education but it just can't compete with the opportunities at a real university (like, one with an enrollment over 4000). Mary Wash really is still a college.

I'm curious about transferring from UMW. If you have two years of good grades (3.4-3.7), are you able to transfer to UVA, Tech or W&M?

I knew two people who transferred to UVA from Mary Wash. That's probably about what their GPA was.

If your school doesn't have a football team, you're not a real University.
